Connealy weaves a beautiful love story with well-written characters who show real emotion. There is more than romance involved, there are also outlaws, secrets and the desire to keep one’s dreams alive through all different kinds of danger.

Montana Territory,1882: Sally McClellen is frustrated by the delays she encounters on her journey to visit her sister. Mandy is about to deliver her latest child and Sally really needs to be there to help. Her traveling companions stop to admire the view, but then they are shot at by unknown gunmen. Her companions go down one by one, until only Sally is left and she goes over a cliff.

Logan McKenzie is out to paint the landscape when he comes across a broken body. He takes her to his home, where she can be treated. As Sally heals, she and Logan are drawn to each other even though they are total opposites. (BARBOUR, Oct., 320 pp., $12.99)
