When young widow Lady Caroline Pearson learns that her wastrel brother-in-law has lost her home in a card game, she is determined not to be evicted by the winner, James Farrington.

Known as a rogue, James is chagrined at winning Lady Pearson's home. James comes to apologize and finds himself kidnapped and held prisoner by an unusual band of eccentric elderly ladies.

Though James might plan to seduce the lovely Caroline and then quietly "escape," he discovers that being her prisoner has its advantages. Though falling in love was never in his cards, he finds the feisty lady to be his lucky ace and must somehow prove to her that she is the only woman he wants.

Several audacious characters, a few abductions and a radiant romance make this a memorable read. Cathy Maxwell always seems to find a way to engage the reader's emotions. SENSUAL (Sept., 360 pp., $5.99)
