YOU KNEW ME WHEN
by Emily Liebert

Genre: Mainstream, General Mainstream Fiction

RT Rating

In this perfectly titled novel about two best friends who drifted apart, the characters are relatable and the author skillfully shows their development from children to teenagers and adults. The themes of friendship and sacrifice are emphasized at every turn, without being preachy and overwhelming. Overall, it’s a great and enthralling read.

Katherine “Kitty” Hill and Laney Marten were once childhood best friends. They had big dreams of moving to New York City and living fabulous lives. An unexpected pregnancy and an amazing job offer changed their plans. Laney got married, had a daughter and stayed in her hometown in Vermont. Kitty moved to New York and lived the type of life Laney had always dreamed of. After not speaking for 12 years, the death of their close friend, Luella, brings Katherine back home. A stipulation in the will forces Katherine and Laney to clear out Luella’s home together, and to find a way to work through years of betrayal, resentment and distance. (NAL, Sep., 352 pp., $15.00)
