Greensboro, NC resident Maggie Reid has had a difficult year. First her husband Vernell, the self-proclaimed Satellite Dish/Mobile Home King, dumps thirty-something Maggie for his dish girl, Jolene. Then their 16-year-old daughter Sheila moves in with her father and his new wife. After all this grief, Maggie decides that she is entitled to follow her own dream, so she takes a job singing at the Golden Stallion Club. Shes a big hit and soon starts bringing in the cowboys.

Her life appears to be back on track, when suddenly all hell breaks loose. Someone murders Maggies ex-brother-in-law Jimmy in her house, making Maggie the prime suspect. At least the sinfully sexy Det. Marshall Weathers seems to think so. Hes certainly dogging Maggie's every move.

Despite her attraction to Det. Weathers, Maggie is not about to leave her fate to chance. Shes determined to uncover the guilty party, if she doesn't get herself arrested or murdered first.

Hot new talent Nancy Bartholomew delivers the opening chapter in what promises to be a delightfully humorous and exhilarating suspense series. Watch out world, novice sleuth Maggie Reid is on the loose. (Feb., 326 pp., $5.99)
