YULETIDE PROTECTOR (4.5) by Julie Miller: The Rose Red Rapist is behind bars, but that doesn’t stop him from being dangerous. The Kansas City police department hasn’t found the man’s partner, the Cleaner, who gets rid of all the rapist’s evidence — even if it means killing his victims. Socialite Bailey Austin is his last surviving victim. Though she is still suffering trauma, Bailey is stronger than her family believes. KCPD detective Spencer Montgomery’s primary goal is to keep Bailey safe and that doesn’t mean falling hard for her. Spencer’s already gone down that road once, and he won’t let another woman die because he couldn’t control his emotions. Then, a series of attacks convince Spencer that he’s the only one who can provide Bailey with the 24-hour surveillance she needs. Miller’s conclusion to the intriguing Rose Red Rapist storyline is picture perfect as she neatly wraps up multiple plotlines and brings justice to all the rapist’s victims in this viscerally compelling tale.
