The 11th book in Liu's Dirk & Steele series follows longtime character Eddie, a pyrokinetic, who finally gets his own romance. Eddie is sent by the Los Angeles-based Dirk & Steele paranormal detective agency to find a dragon shifter named Lyssa who has been on the run since she was a young girl. But Lyssa is in a lot more trouble than anyone, even she, thought. With one of the most dangerous creatures on earth hunting her down, will Eddie and the other agents be able to keep Lyssa safe? "After following the Dirk & Steele series for years, I have to say that this one is my absolute favorite! Even though there is danger and conspiracies, it is the romance of the story that takes center stage. There has never been a more perfectly matched couple than Eddie and Lyssa." - RT Editor "This novel is a superb paranormal read. The heat (literally!) and emotion between Lyssa and Eddie is extraordinary, and the struggles both characters have with their power, and how they cope with it together, brings depth to the story. As always, Liu’s writing is top-notch. The author provides exquisite detail and creates breathtaking dialogue between the hero and heroine, ultimately creating a love story that is impossible to put down!" - RT Editor "I'm not going to lie, this unusual paranormal tale had me tearing up in the subway! It's the first Liu I've ever read and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of the series." - RT Editor Marjorie M. Liu Talks About Her Newest Dirk & Steele Novel >> |

Dead by Nightfall by Beverly Barton will please fans of the romantic suspense genre. The booklover community lost a fine talent with Barton's passing earlier this year and readers will enjoy this final new adventure from the beloved writer. The story ends the author's popular Dead By trilogy and reveals secrets that are standing between P.I Griffin Powell and his wife. With a kidnapping, sex slaves and a madman at large, the story is full of unexpected twists and turns. The author's characters were well drawn, the tension and suspense runs high throughout the entire tale. However, this book will be best enjoyed by readers who have been following the series, as it has a large cast of characters with intricate backstories. |

Diana Gabaldon introduced Lord John in her beloved Outlander series, now he carries his own historical mystery series with quite a bit of elegance, intelligence and of course great honor. In The Scottish Prisoner, readers return to the past twenty-five (or so) years earlier than the current Outlander stories, where Lord John is reunited with Jamie Fraser against his better judgment. Lord John, a homosexual, has unrequited passion for the burly Scottish hero that he knows will never be returned, and although the two are forced to travel together to Ireland, they find more commonalities than differences, as the novel shares both characters' points of view. This thrilling and fast paced story is filled with secrets shared and unshared, treacherous political plots, duels and is wrapped around a mysterious Gaelic poem that brings the hero (and reader) into the mystic supernatural world of faeries and otherworldly creatures. If you love the Outlander series and haven't tried the Lord John series this flawless novel is the perfect place to start. |

With series book Lord of the Abyss, Nalini Singh proves once again that she is absolutely a master of paranormal romance. Micah, Lord of the Black Castle, has been guarding the world from evil for so long that he has become much like the beasts he imprisons. But even though this story reads much like Beauty and the Beast, the fairy tale that inspired this series romance, heroine Liliana is no beauty. And even though she is deformed and ugly, it is not her looks that have everyone avoiding her. Liliana's father is the Blood Sorcerer, the very one who has exiled Micah, taking him from the family he loves. Liliana's fight to restore Micah to his rightful place on the Elden throne is one of sacrifice. And in healing the lost man, she unexpectidly heals herself. Don't be fooled by this book's short format, there is a lot of story packed into a few pages and the characters are absolutely unforgettable. |

Darian, the heorine from Amanda Bonilla's debut novel Shaedes of Gray is quite possibly the year's most interesting Urban Fantasy protgonist. Changed into a Shaede by her supernatural lover at the turn of the last century, Darian has developed her abilities to slip in and out of shadows undetected to punish the evildoers of the world. But make no mistake, Darian is no superhero. With ambigious morals at best and lacking almost all human contact, Darian is, by choice, lonely. Her employer, Tyler, wants to be her protector and lover, but Darian refuses. She doens't want him involved in her dangerous lifestyle any more than he already is. Especially because there is a war brewing between the Shaedes and their enemies and Darian doesn't know the rules. Readers looking for a fast paced book filled with violence and intrigue can do no better than this otherworldly tale that includes some great new paranormal creatures. |
