I've always been an avid thrift shopper. In high school my sister and I bought a box with over 100 early Harlequins because we loved the covers. We intended to cover our bathroom walls with the pictures. Instead, we read them. I started with  Betty Neels, Anne Hampson and Roberta Leigh then I read the Barbarian Princess by Laura Buchanan and discovered historical romances. The adventure continued as I worked at numerous independent bookstores through the years. In 1991, I met Kathryn Falk and joined the RT team launching a mail order book catalogue and supporting the many independent bookstores in the RT Bookstores that Care Network. It's been a dream come true.

Get To Know Kate:

What is one book that you always come back to? Most of my favorites are children's books. I re-read Understood Betsy by Dorothy Canfield every year. I am also a huge Modesty Blaise fan.

If you could travel anywhere right now, where would you go? China. It's a little far and I would like to stay a long time. If that doesn't work out I would be happy to go to Alvin, Texas any time.

Is there any celebrity that you’d love to meet? Authors--not celebrities. I am lucky to have met many of my favorites: These include Madeleine L'Engle, Suzanne Collins, Joan Aiken and J. K. Rowling.
