Jayne Castle Sees A Whole New World In AMARYLLIS

If the name Jayne Castle jogged your memory, it's a good bet that you've been reading romance novels as long as I've been writing them. Jayne Castle (which happens to be my given name) was the name I used on my first books. I'm reviving it now for a brand new series of paranormal, futuristic novels of romantic suspense that begins with Amaryllis.

The obvious question is, why a new name? The answer is that, although it's no secret that Jayne Castle is also Jayne Ann Krentz and Amanda Quick, I want my readers to know that when they pick up a new Castle title, they'll be getting something a little different.

The trilogy that begins with Amaryllis is a series of paranormal romantic suspense novels featuring heroines who work for Psynergy, Inc., a psychic investigative agency. (The word Psynergy is a fusion of psychic and synergy-get it?) The setting is the not-too-distant-futuristic city of New Seattle. (Think of it as contemporary Seattle with a twist: everyone has paranormal powers, including the bad guys.)

Amaryllis, the first book in the series, features Amaryllis Lark, one of the best psychic detectives in the city. Lucas Trent, the ruthless head of Lodestar Exploration, is not keen on the prim, prissy type, but he needs the best paranormal agent in town-and Amaryllis is it. What follows combines a wild murder investigation with a red-hot love affair.

But it's not quite that simple. Because in the slightly different, slightly futuristic city of New Seattle, relationships between the sexes are not simple. Young ladies of good families do not choose their own husbands, for example. They register at a respectable marriage agency. And since marriage is for life, smart young women are careful not to take chances with strangers...

In my Psynergy, Inc. stories I've distilled the essence of everything that I love to write in my contemporary and historical romances and added a shot of psychic energy to turn up the heat. These are fast moving stories that feature gutsy heroines, strong-willed heroes and deadly villains.

I have always loved an element of the paranormal in a romance. It injects an exciting, exotic layer of unusual intimacy into the relationship between the hero and heroine. The factor of psychic awareness complicates everything from passion to suspense.

Beware, in Amaryllis and the next two tales from the files of Psynergy, Inc., Zinnia and Orchid, I've pulled out all the stops. If you like your romantic suspense a little off-the-wall, give them a try.

And don't worry, when it comes to romance and danger, some things never change...
