Marianne Mancusi hit on a novel way
to make her debut book, A Connecticut Fashionista in King Arthur's Court (Love Spell), stand out from the chick lit crowd: magically propel her heroine, New York fashion editor Kat Jones, into Arthurian times. Stir in a romance with Sir Lancelot himself, and voila, a new hybrid—time-travel chick lit.

A bit of a hybrid herself, Mancusi balances a day job as
a multiple Emmy-winning TV news producer at Boston's NBC affiliate, WDHD, with that of fiction writer and "King Arthur junkie." "In my day-to-day job, I see so much tragedy," she says. "I wanted to create a book that would help people forget their worries." The novel is book one of a three-part series; book two will be based on another of her favorites, the legend of Robin Hood.

At several points in the book Kat pines for the comforts of the 21st century. "Nine times out of 10, those are things I would personally miss," Mancusi says, noting that computers and the Internet top her list. "That and sugar-free vanilla nonfat lattes from Starbucks. Oh, and my iPod."—Liz French
