As Amanda Ashley, Author Madeline Baker Will EMBRACE THE NIGHT

Summertime and the living is easy...and so much fun! This month I get to be "shelf-mates" with one of my very best friends, Browyn Wolfe. Her first book Longer Than Forever is being released by Leisure's Angel Line at the same time as my book Embrace the Night.

I think my new book cover (illustrated by the talented Pino) is the best I've ever seen. Is this a hero to die for, or what? Bravo, Pino, you've outdone yourself this time!

It seems as though I've been waiting forever to see Embrace The Night on the bookshelf and what a journey it has been! As soon as I finished my short vampire story "Masquerade" (part of the Topaz Man Favorites: Secrets of the heart anthology published by penguin USA last December), and I had to write another one.

As with most of my books, Embrace The nIght started with a single line (which ironically didn't make the final cut) and then the story wrote itself. I began the book on February 22, 1994 and finished it four months later. I think its by far the best book I've ever written.

You may wonder why Embrace The Nightis being published under a pseudonym. Well it was my publisher's suggestion. I wasn't that cray about the idea at first, but then I decided it was probably a smarth thing to do. When my first fantasy, Warrior's Lady was published, I got several rather blunt letters from readers who bough t the book expecting it to be a western. In order to eliminate any confusion in the future, it was decided that Embrace The Night and any other paranormal/fantasy romances I might write would come out under the name Amanda Ashley.

At the moment Amanda is working on another fantasy. As usual, the beginning came to me in a single opening line: I'm looking for the vampire. I'm not sure where this book is headed, but it promises to be a wonderful ride. While Amanda is busy writing fantasy, Madeline Baker is taking a short vacation! However both of us are looking forward to seeing Lakota Renegade on the shelf in September, the reissue of Reckless Love in November, and a time-travel on the shelf in March of '96. Hope you're having a terrific summer filled with sunshine, love and great books! I'd love to hear from you!
