"Nature made him, and then broke the mold."-Ludivico Aristo"Extremely sexy men must be flawed, in order to balance the odds."-Lori Foster

A truism of my own making, but very appropriate, don't you think?

When I first started reading romances, it was the arrogant, bold, but always sexy men who held my attention. I mean, who would want a perfect hero? Not only is such a thing impossible-after all, each of us is wonderfully flawed in some intriguing way-but heroines need a challenge.

So, first and foremost in anything I write, I create a deliciously sexy, confident, somehow overbearing man who nettles the heroine with his rapid and unending wit and makes her pant with raging, unplumbed depths of lust. A good combination, wouldn't you say?

I also allow my characters a few wild fantasies. I get explicit, partly because I see nothing wrong with deeply sensual love scenes.

But more to the point, I enjoy reading them, and I love writing them. They're necessary to my characters, because my characters feel.

That means when they fall, they fall hard, and there's no room for obsessions with the dark or forbidden taboos.

That doesn't mean we have to be overly maudlin. Life is wonderful-living it is even more fun. That may sound strange, but too many people merely suffer life, wishing each day away and hoping the next will be better.

I say, make today the best. That's what I do, and for the most part, that's what my characters do. Through their problems and disappointments, they survive, and they smile, knowing that they are living life to its fullest. I hope you'll smile, too-and that you'll pick up my literary debut, IMPETUOUS, a January '96 release from Harlequin Temptation.
