LORI WILDE'S MISSION: IRRESISTIBLE
A SERIES-TURNED-SINGLE-TITLE AUTHOR ACCEPTS AN IRRESISTIBLE CHALLENGE: TOUR THE U.S. IN AN RV
Queen of spicy romance Lori Wilde is on a mission. No, it's not the risky sport of jumping from writing category romances for Harlequin to stand-alone titles for Warner Forever, then back again. She's been there and done that. Her mission, which she has eagerly decided to accept, is
a month-long book tour, which she'll kick off at the RT Booklovers Convention in St. Louis. She'll offer reader contest giveaways, including copies of her pulse-pounding May release, Mission: Irresistible, and hold a drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.
After she makes what will undoubtedly be a huge splash at the RT conference, Wilde, accompanied by her husband and two pets, will journey down the famous Route 66, traveling through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. "We're taking our modern-day Conestoga west from the Gateway Arch all the way to Los Angeles," Wilde says, describing her promotional extravaganza, which includes launch parties at bookstores such as Page One in Albuquerque and The Book Ladies in Norco, CA.
This adventurous duo's trip was the brainchild of Wilde's editor at Warner, Beth deGuzman. Says Wilde, "My husband (who grew up in a family of fun-loving RVers) and I bought a fifth-wheel travel trailer so we could see the country. When I told Beth about it she suggested we visit booksellers along the way." It was a fortuitous turn of events, since Wilde was eager to spotlight her third romantic adventure for Warner Forever. The author, who was first published in 2000 with the Harlequin Duets title Mistletoe and Mayhem/Santa's Sexy Secret and has amassed more than a dozen novels since, cites Mission: Irresistible as a particularly special book.
"I love the heroine: impulsive, curvy, sexually-adventuresome Cassie Cooper, twin sister to the heroine from my previous Warner novel, Charmed and Dangerous," Wilde explains. "The hero is cautious, nerdy archeologist Harrison Standish. (Think Indiana Jones when he was in the classroom.) Throw in 3,000-year-old Egyptian star-crossed lovers who'll be reunited once an ancient amulet is brought back together, a secret brotherhood sect determined to steal the magic amulet, a mysterious amnesiac mummy and you've got Mission: Irresistible." Indiana Jones and a hero named Harrison? It's not hard to see the inspiration behind this hero.
Although Wilde has made the transition from writing category romances to single titles, she in no way has forgone her series roots. She's tapping into her sensual side with the Harlequin Blaze line and has no plans to stop. "I like the change of pace category offers," Wilde opines. "In fact, I'll be writing books one and six for a new six-book continuity series for Blaze starting in January 2006. The series is titled Blast From the Past and I'm so excited to be working with the talented Carrie Alexander, Jeanne London, Kristin Hardy and Shannon Hollis. It's shaping up to be a great series."
Writing and promotion are the name of the game for Lori Wilde, and she wouldn't have it any other way. Mission accomplished.Lauren Spielberg
