BELLA ANDRE DRINKS IN THE NAPA VALLEY

Having lived in Northern California's wine country for a decade, I couldn't resist setting my two latest books there as well. The initial charms of the region are obvious -- lush vineyards, gorgeous mountains, seductive valleys and, of course, plump grapes growing as far as the eye can see. In my latest novel, Red Hot Reunion, the hero and heroine, Jason and Emma, learn to trust each other again while exploring the hidden gems of Napa Valley. This romantic setting inspired more than one extremely sensual interlude between the lovers.

Start your day with a hot air balloon ride, the perfect reward for waking up at the crack of dawn. As the sun rises and the fog lifts, the land beneath you becomes a glorious, seemingly never-ending canvas of mustard flowers and grapevines. Contact NapaValleyDrifters.com or NapaValleyBalloons.com for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Next, visit one of the wine caves and champagne cellars that dot the valley. Once you step inside your senses will come alive as the cool, humid air mixes with the delicious scent of crushed, fermenting grapes. The image of hundreds of beautifully built, often carved barrels lining the tunnel walls is truly unique. The wine tasting rooms at Hans Fahden Vineyards (HansFahden.com) and Pine Ridge Winery are in the caves, and many other wineries host concerts, weddings and dinners within the thick rock walls.

Romance is inevitable while soaking in the restorative waters of the natural mineral hot springs in Calistoga, several miles north of the town of Napa. And if you're feeling really adventurous, a couples' mud bath at Calistoga Spa Hot Springs, followed by a soak in the springs will be an experience you will never forget.

Where else can you be out in the country, surrounded by beautiful fields and crops, yet dine at some of the greatest restaurants?
The French Laundry (FrenchLaundry.com) is considered by some food critics to be the best restaurant in the world. If you remember to plan ahead (the French restaurant is booked two to four months in advance), you will have a culinary experience that
will put all others to shame. The 100-year-old building, built of river rock and timbers and once a saloon and a brothel, is now
the site of perfectly prepared and presented nine-course dinners, complete with delicacies such
as truffles, foie gras and the best seasonal products available.

To end a perfect day, wind your way up into the hills to Auberge du Soleil (AubergeDuSoleil.com), one of the few United States hotels in the exclusive Relais and Chateaux network. In Tempt Me, Taste Me, Touch Me, the heroine, Vanessa, and the hero, Sam, start to fall in love over a sensual meal in this exclusive resort. A nightcap on the bar's wraparound deck, which overlooks the valley below, is the perfect end to a perfectly romantic day.

Napa Valley is more than just gorgeous grapes and great wines. It's the perfect place to fall in love.
