FIFTY AND COUNTING FOR
BRENDA JACKSON

It's usually weddings that are celebrated with something old and something new, but Brenda Jackson is marking a career milestone with a flurry of re-releases and new titles. This month's Slow Burn (St. Martin's), the 14th story in her immensely popular Madaris Family and Friends series, is also the 50th book to bear the romance author's name (novels and novellas combined).

And although Jackson is set to retire from her insurance company job next June, after some 38 years, this Nora Roberts of African-American fiction won't be disappearing from bookstores any time soon. December and February will see new titles in her Westmoreland series from Silhouette Desire, Spencer's Forbidden Passion and Taming Clint Westmoreland, respectively, and Harlequin will reissue some of her early Madaris novels (originally published by Kensington) under the Arabesque imprint: Tonight and Forever (December), Whispered Promises (January), Eternally Yours (February) and One Special Moment (March).

But what to do about the short stories and novellas that are part of the continuity of the Madaris series and were originally published in anthologies with other authors? Harlequin won't be reissuing them, but Jackson will, through her own publishing company named -- what else? -- Madaris Publishing. Jackson will repackage the second Madaris tale, "Cupid's Bow" -- which was first released as part of an anthology -- with two new stories that are connected to other books she's writing, under the title Forever Mine.

That will also be out in February, while April brings the single title Her Little Black Book from St. Martin's; May, a new novel in her Steele family series, Irresistible Forces (Kimani); and June, Just Desserts, also from Kimani
