Dear Reader,

When people ask me what I write, I like to tell them: Romantic Stories for the Head and Heart.

I’ve always adored an uplifting love story (my favorites are when the characters have tough, real-life obstacles to overcome—and when love teaches them to rise above their problems to become better, more deeply authentic people).

And along with being a sucker for a love story, I’m also a fact geek. I’m endlessly fascinated by the world we live in. For that reason, Slow Dancing on Price's Pier is set in a Newport, Rhode Island, coffee shop.

That little cup of coffee that you or your coworkers drink everyday is full of secrets: stories of piracy, espionage, illicit love, and war. Each chapter of Slow Dancing opens with one or two paragraphs from the heroine’s newspaper column about coffee: There are subtle parallels between the facts she offers about coffee and her own tumultuous love life.

Coffee is fascinating. Coffee and love go hand in hand. It’s great fodder for discussion (a reader’s club guide is available in each book, and I’m happy to do call-ins!).

Newport is also a fascinating to me: the daunting and elaborate “cottages” of the Rockefellers contrast with the quaint, weather-boarded colonial homes along the wharves. The Narragansett is fickle and beautiful, dotted with sailboats and yachts.

When I visited Newport, my brain when into overdrive. A love story was born. Here is the overview:

Thea Celik has devoted herself to running her Newport coffee shop, to parenting her daughter, and to being a meaningful part of her in-law’s loving family. Her life is mild but satisfying—she’s sure of her place in the community and in her family. But when her childhood friend and husband Jonathan uncharacteristically cheats on her, her certainty about her role in the world is shaken.

Now as Thea strives to rediscover herself and remain close with the only family she knows, Jonathan’s brother Garret vows to exile her from their lives once and for all. Garret has never forgotten his history with Thea, and he hopes Jonathan’s divorce from her will mean he can reconnect with his brother at last. But his increasingly frequent encounters with Thea—and his unresolved feelings for her—threaten his relationship with his family now more than ever before.

Slow Dancing on Price's Pier is the story of one woman’s determination to rediscover a new life while trying to maintain the old. The book asks, When the bonds of friendship, family, and love are tested, how long will they hold?

I hope you’ll check out Slow Dancing. Believe me when I say it’s going to keep you turning pages. There are secrets to be uncovered, lives to be changed, and lessons to be learned from both love and from cups of coffee.

Wishing you much happy reading!
