Arlene HollidaySummer WindZEBRA-LOVEGRAM

I chose to write historical romance because the genre contains what I consider to be an unbeatable combination of elements: history with all the wonder of the past, and love stories with fairy tale endings. Since I've always been a history buff with a particular interest in the American West, I find the research necessary for writing historicals fascinating. Doing the research for SUMMER WIND, my latest historical and a July Zebra Lovegram, was no exception.

When I started researching the California gold rush, I read how American miners did everything they could to chase those they labeled "foreigners" from the area and how those forced from the mines formed gangs to seek revenge. SUMMER WIND began to take shape when I read about the Californios (people born in California whose ancestors came from Spain).

Katelyn Ferguson took over her father's newspaper after his death to wreak revenge upon the man she held responsible, El Buitre (The Vulture), leader of one of the gangs roaming the area. At first Katelyn's scathing editorials amuse El Buitre, but later he decides that she should learn the truth about the man she berates.

Please watch for my next book, DANCER'S ANGEL, (September '96), another sizzling adventure in the Old West, this one in El Paso, Texas. When Kit Dancer, haunted by his past and filled with guilt over the loss of his wife and son, meets Angelina Coleman in a bordello, he thinks she's his kind of woman. However, Angelina has been forced to work in this setting through an unfortunate set of circumstances and is not what she appears to be.

Thanks to all of you who wrote to me about my first two books, Wild Texas Blossom and His Wildest Fantasy. Knowing you enjoyed my stories means more to me than I can ever express. My address was listed incorrectly in my last profile, so if you wrote but did not get a response, please write again. I'd sure love to hear from you.
