Working in a man's world, Emily McKay has to be tough, exact and...well, more than a little stubborn. Painting is her life, but in order to provide a living for her and the younger brother she is raising, she must give up her dream of murals to paint houses. Enter one Cord Harrison, architect and contractor of Emily's first big job in months. After a series of personal losses, he's in desperate need of time off from his world, time off to be by himself. He certainly never intended to give his painter a second glance, but he can't help himself-the moody, prickly, determined woman is like no other he's ever met.

EXCERPT FROM A Time to Trust:

"Unless you have a preference," Emily said smoothly, "I'll be starting with the outside."

Cord glanced at the 1930s hunting lodge he'd bought to redo. "Want some help?"

Those amazing eyes chilled by several degrees. Her voice came soft, yet strong and determined. "I can handle it."

"Are you sure? Because-"

"I said I'm fine," she grated, her hands firmly on her hips. "Now why don't you be a good contractor and get back to your coffee and donut break?"

..."That's cops," he said amiably.

"What?

"Cops take coffee and donut breaks. Contractors eat bologna and cheese sandwiches and whistle at women walking by."

"You're laughing at me."

"And you're judging me. Again."

She looked at him. "You're right. My apologies."

"Accepted," he said lightly, wanting to laugh at how she'd practically choked on that apology. Instead, he smiled, albeit a wicked one, picturing that cool poise of hers shattered by the end of the work day, when she'd certainly be paint-splattered and struggling with her equipment. Maybe there was some redemption in this situation after all.
