Hanging above the stair landing in the old Pawnee Bill Ranch-House-Turned-Museum near Pawnee, Oklahoma, is an antique painting. And there's a ghost in it.

Yes, you heard me correctly.

If you go to the top of the stairs and look at the picture from a certain angle, a shimmering apparition suddenly appears in the background.

I just had to write a story about that painting. Suppose a present day tourist, Blossom Ann Murdock, reaches up to touch that painting and gets whirled back in time to the Old West of 1873? That's where she meets her destined love. And what a hero! If you like Native American hunks, take a look at the Pawnee scout, War Cry, on this cover.

The ranch where the ghost painting hangs belonged to Pawnee Bill, a contemporary and sometimes partner of Buffalo Bill Cody in some Wild West shows. Yes, I've been there; it's open to tourists. I also walked the ground at Massacre Canyon in Nebraska, where the last great inter-tribal battle between the Pawnee and the Lakota occurred in 1873.

Timeless Warrior, my first time-travel historical romance, is dedicated to all those hundreds of readers who have written to me saying they would love to return to the Old West. Yet, if you really could journey back in time, would you dare?

If you like a surprise ending with an O. Henry "twist," you'll love this quirky, unusual tale; a mix of Indian romance, ghost story, time-travel and reincarnation. My publisher thinks this story is so outstanding that Zebra is doing a big promotion. You'll have a chance to win an unusual pair of silver earrings, similar to the heroine's which play such an important part in this plot. (For details, see the coupon inside the book.) I also gave away autographed covers of Timeless Warrior to the first 200 people who sent a stamped, self-addressed 6x9 envelope.

For all the readers who have asked how my stories connect, I have new postcards with the Timeless Warrior cover on one side and a complete list of details of the Panorama of the Old West series on the other.

As always, you can write to me at: P.O. Box 162, Edmond, OK, 73083-0162. Or e-mail me from
