Author's Message

When I first envisioned my Jolie Wilkins series and, more specifically, Jolie herself, I really wanted to create a heroine who wasn't along the lines of all the heroines I'd been reading at the time. While I've always love urban fantasy and paranormal romance, I couldn't help but notice a theme among them, one in which the heroines were extremely strong, both emotionally and physically, and seemed incredibly independent and fearless, almost to superhero extremes. And while I really enjoyed reading the adventures of these amazing women, there was a part of me that couldn't really connect with them, something within me that had nothing in common with them. Why? Because I'm wasn't like them.

And that was when it hit me. I wanted to write an adventure series about an ordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances. I wanted to write a story about a woman who could be me, my next door neighbor, my best friend or any of the myriad of women I knew.

And, thus, Jolie Wilkins was born.

Jolie is the quintessential girl next door — the one who doesn't think she stands out in a crowd, suffers from self doubt and doesn't speak the language known as "man." Jolie is smart but unsure of herself and, really, her story is one of self-awareness, of learning to believe in herself and finding out that she's absolutely capable of dealing with all the overwhelming situations being thrust at her.

First, there's warlock, Rand Balfour, who owns Jolie's heart but who's also as stubborn as a mule when it comes to giving in to his feelings. Then there's charismatic vampire, Sinjin Sinclair, who Jolie can't help but be drawn to. As if a love triangle between the two debonair men isn't enough to send her into a tailspin, Jolie has unwittingly been crowned Queen of the Underworld and isn't exactly comfortable with the title. Between battling her feelings for the two men in her life, trying to rule the Underworld and protecting it from the menacing Lurkers, Jolie goes on a voyage of self-discovery.

In the latest installment of the Jolie series, The Witch Is Back, Jolie is thrust back in time to the day when warlock, Rand Balfour, first walked through her door and forever changed her life. But this time, Rand isn't the one to make that fateful first connection. Instead, it's vampire Sinjin Sinclair who has been thirsting for Jolie since first meeting her.

What happens next will be a race to the finish line as Rand and Sinjin battle for Jolie's affection and Jolie tries to figure out why her life has been turned upside down.
