The 100 Recap: Episode 1.8 - "Day Trip"
Remorseful Bellamy. Maybe he needs a hug...
The night begins with Octavia’s Grounder still tied up and in need of some serious medical care. Bellamy’s in the room, possibly contemplating his actions, and tells Miller, one of his minions, that they aren’t going to kill the Grounder. When Mr. Minion Miller taunts their prisoner, the Grounder headbutts him. Shows him right!
Meanwhile, the Council video chats with Clarke, and the Chancellor tries to get her to forgive her mom, but she refuses and then sets out to arrange delinquents to talk to their parents. She gets a guy named Dax, but when he goes to say hi to his mom, an Ark guard – the same guard who convinced Bellamy to shoot the Chancellor – convinces Dax to kill Bellamy.
Bellamy’s not letting Octavia near the Grounder, despite her protests. Tension’s still running high between these siblings, but luckily Clarke comes in and breaks up the unease by asking Bellamy to join her in finding a supply depot the Ark says is nearby. After he agrees, Clarke checks in on Finn and awkwardness ensues as Raven hovers behind her.
After Bellamy and Clarke set out, Octavia sneaks her way up to the Grounder. She gives him water and realizes he does understand English after he laughs at her saying her brother’s a dick. A moment later, he tells her his name is Lincoln so she’ll remember him after he’s dead. Octavia tries to convince him he won’t die, but is interrupted by Miller.
Clarke tells Bellamy he could be pardoned for shooting the Chancellor, but he’s not buying it. Behind them, Dax lurks like the creeper he is. After some digging, they find the supply depot and find it nearly empty, save for some blankets and rotting bodies. Oh, wait, weapons are hidden in barrels of water!
Bellamy sure is excited about those guns.
Back at camp, Octavia’s still mad at Raven for torturing Lincoln and riles her up by saying how awful it is that Finn’s into Clarke. So, Raven decides to reaffirm their love by getting in his pants. Elsewhere, Jasper and Monty are busy digging into the rations and eating some nuts…which seem to be making them go, well, a little nuts. Jasper starts hallucinating about Grounders and goes to Octavia for help. She gives him a stick – “an anti-Grounder stick” – and tells him to sit down. Realizing it’s the rations making Jasper go coo-coo, Octavia offers a pack of them to Miller. She sure is crafty.
In the supply depot, Bellamy teaches Clarke how to fire a gun and she feels bad for liking how thrilling it is to shoot. It doesn’t take her long to realize Bellamy’s planning on running off on his own to avoid the consequences of shooting the Chancellor. When he storms off, he “sees” the Chancellor. Looks like Jasper’s not the only one riding a high, because Clarke and everyone back at camp – except Finn and Raven – start hallucinating, too.
Clarke envisions her father and starts breaking down over her recent actions and the growing pressure of everyone counting on her. Jake tells her she’s doing the best she can and tries to get her to forgive her mother. Turns out, Jake is really Dax, who then whaps Clarke on the head with the end of a gun.
With Miller going cray-cray, Octavia frees Lincoln, but he’s more worried about her safety than his freedom. Before he ducks out, he kisses her, which made my inner fanboy squeal with joy. But as Lincoln escapes, he runs into Finn, who lets him go.
Fake Chancellor taunts Bellamy along with those who died on the Ark, and Bellamy comes to his senses just in time to find Dax aiming a gun at him. Clarke shows up, but her gun isn’t working. Dax tries to kill both her and Bellamy, but Bellamy stabs him in the neck with a fallen bullet. Afterwards, Bellamy breaks down and Clarke consoles him, telling him they all need him and he has to face his actions. He calls her out by saying, “Like you faced your mom?” Low blow, but true nonetheless.
Out of their trances, the rest of the camp realize Lincoln’s gone, but before they can freak out, Bellamy and Clarke come back and announce they’re done being afraid and give them all guns. Because, you know, giving a bunch of teenagers guns is totally a smart thing to do. Finn’s not too happy about this either. Later, Bellamy tries to make amends with Octavia, but she’s not very receptive. When he asks her about Lincoln, she denies being the one who set him free.
Bellamy finally faces the Chancellor through a video chat and Clarke defends him and asks for his crime to be pardoned. Bellamy sweetens the plea by offering to tell the Chancellor who on the Ark wants to kill him. The Chancellor agrees and a moment later we see Wannabe Chancellor Kane arrest the guard. Hooray, justice! We then learn sketchy Diana is the one who’s pulling the strings and wants the Chancellor dead. She then kills the guard in his prison cell and makes it look like a suicide.
I ship them so hard. #Bellarke 4Everz!
Not as good as the previous episodes have been, but still a solid installment that kept me on the edge of my seat. The highlight was Lincoln and Octavia’s kiss. I’m a total sucker for forbidden, complicated romance, and I’m definitely adding #Linctavia to my ship list.
