Budgeting time during the RT Booklovers Convention can be a challenging task. With so many events packed into only a few short days, time is precious and some sacrifices must be made. But no matter which events end up making your cut, both the Friday and Saturday bookfairs are must-attend events.
Friday's E-book, Indie Published and Graphic Novel Expo gives you the chance to meet hundreds of digital first authors — including Meg Benjamin, Mari Carr, Delphine Dryden, HP Mallory, Katie Porter (Carrie Lofty & Lorelie Brown), Laura Kaye, Raine Miller and Andrew Shaffer — in one place and have the opportunity to buy the authors' latest work, get autographs and grab promo materials and goodies.
But with a giant room filled with authors, where to begin? Today we bring you our guide for navigating the Friday Expo, whether you're joining us in Kansas City or participating from home!
Authors and fans at the 2012 RT Booklovers Convention E-Expo
On Thursday May 2 from 4 - 6 p.m. you can meet more than 300 e-book and small press authors and many graphic novel authors, who will be spread out in one of the large exhibit halls in the Sheraton Kansas City Crown Center hotel. If you're already registered for the entire five-day RT Booklovers Convention, simply show up to the Expo with your badge. For those who are not participating in the full convention but still want to attend the Expo, you have a few options: You can buy your E-Book, Indie Publisher and Graphic Novel Expo ticket at the door for $5, or you can purchase a Thursday day pass for $99 that includes all the workshops for Thursday.
The Sheraton Kansas City Crown Center is located at 2345 McGee Street, Kansas City, Mo., 64180. Both Expo tickets and day passes can be purchased on site or you can register online here and selecting the registration option "Day and Weekend Passes & Individual Events".
If you are planning on only attending the E-Expo, Indie Publisher and Graphic Novel Expo, we suggest you arrive at 3:30 pm. If you are purchasing a Day Pass we suggest that you arrive by 9:30 a.m. to get your badge and be ready to begin workshops at 10 a.m.
Ok, so you're already registered, now what to bring? General RT Con essential supplies aside, there are a few items you'll definitely want to have on hand for the E-Expo:
1. A sturdy canvas tote bag or backpack. Yes, this is an e-book expo, which means there won't be any physical copies of books for sale, but you're welcome to bring your own hard copies of books for authors to sign (just make sure you check them in at the door first), and you'll want to have somewhere to put all the promo material and swag you grab.
2. Your e-reader. If you decide you want to buy some e-books or download sample chapters, you'll want to make sure they appear on your reading device correctly. All e-books will be available to purchase through ARe, All Romance E-books.
3. If you have a smart phone, we recommend that you download any QR Code Reader app, since many authors will have a QR (Quick Response) Code on their promo materials. With this QR Reader you can scan the code on your mobile device and go right to the book you want to purchase. You can download a free QR Code Reader for iOS devices here and for Android devices here.
4. Pens, sharpies and a camera. This is a bookfair, after all! You want to be prepared to get autographs and photos with your favorite authors.
But if you can't make it to Kansas City, you can still join in on the Expo fun! ARe is the official bookseller for our 2013 Expo and this year we are making the event global so that everyone can participate from home. Join us by visiting this page on May 2 from 4 - 6 p.m. to attend the virtual event! Just click on any author’s name and it will take you to their unique author page on All Romance e-Books website where you can view their catalog of e-books and begin purchasing. We recommend that, if you do not already have an account with ARe, you set one up before the Expo begins on May 2 to make your purchasing easy on the day of the event. Happy reading!
