2014 RT Convention Outfits: Regina's Picks

The RT Booklovers Convention is only a few short weeks away! Which means if you're planning on attending the full week of books, babes (yes, we mean you) and shenanigans, you've got some packing to do. With a full schedule of panels, workshops, events — and, of course, parties — one outfit a day may not cut it. So bust out those extra large suitcases, because the RT staff is bringing you their dream outfits for the themed evening events and nighttime parties. Today, take a look at RT Senior Editor/Reviews Coordinator Regina Small's outfits.

Pirates, Scalawags & More

To add a quirky twist to the pirate-themed soiree, this landlubber decided on a Tim Burton-influenced look, with lots of black and white — and a dash of red. A black-and-white-striped bustier goes perfectly with a sweet little white cap accented with black bows. A skirt would make marauding a little difficult, so I settled on a pair of white denim pants with feminine lace detail on the sides. Studded black boots, a pair of silver sword earrings and a whimsical skull-and-crossbones manicure strike a balance between soft and strong. Top it off with a fresh application of MAC's Dubonnet, a rich scarlet lipstick, and you're good to go! Full outfit details here.

Mardi Gras World Carnivále

I'm a woman who gravitates toward bold colors, so I can't help but love the classic gold, green and purple palette of Mardi Gras. NastyGal's Gold Rush dress puts a youthful spin on gold lamé, and a pair of kitten-heel slingback pumps will make walking through the fabulous Mardi Gras World space a piece of … beignet. Accessories? Got it covered with an emerald-hued Amrita Singh bracelet with matching stud earrings, adding a sophisticated touch of green. But the look wouldn't be complete without YSL's stunning Violet Incognito lip color and a light dusting of — what else? — purple body glitter. Full outfit details here.

RT Pub Crawl

RT's pub crawl will be a test of endurance for all attendees, so "comfort" is definitely the name of the game. A chic green romper (those Mardi Gras colors!) and a pair of comfortable but stylish lace-up boots will be invaluable during the stroll down Bourbon Street. Since no one wants to lug a heavy purse while imbibing, a wristlet is the best choice for carrying the absolute essentials. As you trek under the unforgiving New Orleans sun, you'll be thankful for a pair of aviator sunglasses, but when it cools down during the second half of the crawl, it's not a bad idea to have a cardigan on hand. Meanwhile, if pesky lipstick stains on pint glasses drive you nuts, opting for a simple lip balm is the way to go. Oh, and I just can't resist an adorable martini glass necklace. Samhain's Sinners & Saints Party

My motto is "keep the haters guessing," so why choose between saint and sinner when you can be both? Hervé Léger is a bit of a splurge, but any curve-hugging white bandage dress, along with a pearl bracelet, would be an eye-catching complement to a fitted leather jacket and sexy red pumps. A set of angel/devil earrings from Etsy add just the right touch of mischief, offsetting a fluffy halo headband. And that lipstick? D&G's Devil, of course. Full outfit details here.

Avon's Krewe of Muses

At this year's RT Convention, publisher Avon Books is honoring Erato, one of the Muses in Greek mythology. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to pull together a Grecian-inspired outfit. GUESS' flowy coral silk dress puts me in mind of Charles Meynier's painting of Erato. Accessories like a pair of tan-and-gold sandals, Kenneth Lane mosaic earrings and a floral headwrap make for a gorgeous, highly feminine look. Since Erato is the muse of love and poetry, an elegant gold-wire, heart-shaped ring and a pendant quoting poet e.e. cummings seemed like intuitive choices. Plus, Bobbi Brown's nude pink gloss is the perfect shade for a Greek goddess — or muse. Full outfit details here.

Heather Graham's Mardi Gras Magic & Mayhem, Dinner & Dance Party

Keep your vampires, witches, werewolves and fairies. I'm ready for mermaid life! A simple bandeau top and a pair of high-waisted green bikini bottoms from Etsy immediately evoke an image of a lady of the sea. And clear jellies — a staple of my childhood — will look too cute when paired with sexy fishnet stockings. While purple clamshell earrings and starfish barrettes are the ideal beachy accessories, it's the bold makeup — like an outrageous blue-and-pink eyeshadow combo, sparkly turquoise nail polish and MAC's bright pink Candy Yum Yum lipstick  — that will make this fantastic look a swimming success. Full outfit details here.

Harlequin Dance Party

Harlequin's party is the very last time to cut loose at RT, so that means one thing: go big or go home. For me, that translates into a strapless purple-ombre bandage dress with a sweetheart neckline, gold filigree earrings, totally glam crystal sandals and a feathered fascinator headband! The latest eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay, Naked3, offers a lovely array of pinks and purples to play around with and Stila's convertible color in fuchsia works as both a creamy blush and a lip color. This is one outfit that radiates warmth, sweetness and sexiness all in one! Full outift details here.
