The Association of American Publishers monthly sales report, which helps industry insiders (and readers) see changes in book sales, has just been released and it contains great news for authors. The report shows that e-book sales are on a tremendous upswing.
May 2012 statistics have been fully calculated and show that the month saw a record high at $133.7 million digital sales. (However, even though e-books show tremendous growth, this segment only makes up about 25% of all book sales.)
Below is a graph from Publisher's Marketplace for a visual guide showing e-book sales, in millions, from January 2010 to May 2012.
The recent report also had good news for print sales. Total trade sales from reporting publishers were $535 million in May 2012, which was a 17% increase from May 2011.
