Alloy Entertainment To Publish YA E-books

Fire up your e-readers, YA fans, because some e-only titles are coming your way from publishing juggernaut Alloy.

Alloy — think, oh, Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars — is capitalizing on the growing popularity of e-books by starting an e-only initiative. “With more people turning to e-books to get their summer reading fix this season, we’re excited to offer these two perfect escapes to satisfy readers,” says Alloy Entertainment Brand Manager Kristin Marang of the titles, It’s the End of the World as We Know It by Iva-Marie Palmer, and The Art of Disappearing by Elena Perez.

“A fan of Alloy’s TV and film content, I thought my story about a teen with emerging psychic powers would connect with their audience,” says Perez of the title, which tells the tale of a high school girl whose dream predicts the death of a classmate. The End of the World As We Know It, meanwhile, is billed as “The Breakfast Club meets War of the Worlds.”

Perez, an early adopter of e-readers, sees the potential in an e-only release. “It certainly changes the playing field in an interesting way; content can get to market more quickly and easily and that lends itself to some fascinating success stories (e.g. in self-publishing),” says Perez. In particular the author says she benefited from a quick turnaround. “A perk of digital distribution, The Art of Disappearing launched very quickly, only a few months after I received initial feedback from my editor at Alloy, Emilia Rhodes,” Perez tells RT

And the author sees another upside of e-readership, “When I got [my Nook in 2009], I instantly started buying and reading more books,” she says. “I might have two or three books in progress at any given moment.” If readers really do read more on e-readers, e-initiatives like this could become a serious boon for houses like Alloy.

The e-books are currently available for downalod from both Barnes & Noble and Amazon!
