Cover Breakdown: Silver Bastard by Joanna Wylde

BY Elisa Verna, OCTOBER 08, 2014 | PERMALINK

In lieu of Hump Day (don't worry, it'll return next week), today I'm breaking down the recently revealed cover of Joanna Wylde's Silver Bastard, which begins her new Silver Valley series, a spin off of her current Reaper's Motorcycle Club series. Now, I love the Reaper's MC series. Reaper's Stand just released yesterday and I devoured it. Wylde isn't afraid to write terrible people who do unforgivable things, and her characters are profoundly unapologetic. And yet, I end up loving them by the end of the book. In Reaper's Stand we meet young MC prospect Puck, who is getting his own story with Silver Bastard. Wylde recently shared the cover of her April 2015 release, and I took a nice, long look:

BY Elissa Petruzzi, OCTOBER 08, 2014 | PERMALINK

We've got a treat for you today! Below you'll find an exclusive, advanced exceprt of Laura Kaye's upcoming Hard to Come By. Releasing November 25 — just in time to help you deal with all the holiday madness — Kaye's third Hard Ink title will keep you up reading late into the night. Our reviewer flipped over the sexy, romantic suspense tale of Derek and Emilie and the rest of the disgraced Special Forces team (you can read the full review in our upcoming December issue). Read on and get ready for November …

At the far end of the pier stood a lighthouse. The red circular building perched atop black iron legs, with the light itself projecting out of the top of the roof. It had a charm about it that read old, and it had almost certainly come from somewhere else. A sign on a locked gate at the bottom of the stairs confirmed that and read, “Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, c. 1855, moved to this location 1988.”

Tropeoween: Halloween Costumes For Your Favorite Romance Trope - Awkward YA Heroine Who Discovers She's a Witch

BY DJ DeSmyter, OCTOBER 08, 2014 | PERMALINK

All week long we’re celebrating Tropeoween here on the RT blog. What is Tropeoween, you ask? Why it’s a celebration of trope-y romance Halloween costumes, of course! Monday we featured a paranormal/urban fantasy heroine, aka, “The Newbie Shapeshifting Wolf Heroine (Who Also Might Be A Paranormal Investigator). Yesterday contemporary romances are on the hot seat, as we profiled "The Virgin Secretary to the Billionaire CEO (Who is About to Not be a Virgin At All)". Today's costume is perfect for those wanting to be a Young Adult Heroine Who Discovers She's a Witch. After her parents suddenly die under strange (read: paranormal) circumstances, she discovers there's a strong possiblity she's related to either the Charmed Ones or the Sanderson sisters. Very Short Reviews of Difficult Books

BY Elisa Verna, OCTOBER 08, 2014 | PERMALINK

Ah, classic literary fiction. It can be so wonderful, but at times dense, leaving us wishing for a guide to lead us through the venerable prose. Enter: Italian artist and writer Francesco D'Isa, who reviews the classics in a candid, tongue-in-cheek (and very short) way. We're happy to bring his column, "Very Short Reviews of Difficult Books," to English language readers! Check back here every Wednesday for three new reviews from Francesco.

I Ching by Various Authors

One of the earliest oracles of the world; the good news is that because of magic, Jungian synchronicity, chance, psychology, rhetoric or a bit of everything, it can't be wrong.

Plot: I Ching answers your important questions.
Rating: ●●●●●

The Gnostic Gospels by Various Authors

The "secret," magical, mystic and unofficial side of the Gospels: not only for Christians, and, as with every ancient religion, very instructive.

Amy Finnegan Actually Went On A Date With Her Celebrity Crush

BY DJ DeSmyter, OCTOBER 07, 2014 | PERMALINK

In Amy Finnegan's Not in the Script, Emma Taylor's life is seemingly composed of camera angles, multiple takes and show ratings. And with such a Hollywood-tastic backdrop, we wanted to know all about Amy's celebrity crushes and what the perfect date with them would be like. Turns out, she actually had a chance to dine with one of her crushes! Read on for all the juicy details!

Forget dream dates, this is a true story. In a very strange twist of fate, I actually went out to dinner with one of my celebrity crushes. It was more like a double date, since I was with my husband and the guy was with his wife, but it did happen.

Back when reality shows were actually somewhat real, my husband and I became addicted to a few shows — one in particular. We watched every episode, sometimes twice, and during one of the seasons I grew quite fond of a contestant. Fond enough that I would make silly comments to my husband like, “The cute one better win. He’s too hot not to win.” So my husband was well aware of my crush, believe me.

Well, the cute guy won.

Tropeoween: Halloween Costumes For Your Favorite Romance Trope - Virgin Secretary

BY Elissa Petruzzi, OCTOBER 07, 2014 | PERMALINK

All week long we’re celebrating Tropeoween here on the RT blog. What is Tropeoween, you ask? Why it’s a celebration of trope-y romance Halloween costumes, of course! Yesterday we featured a paranormal/urban fantasy heroine, aka, “The Newbie Shapeshifting Wolf Heroine (Who Also Might Be A Paranormal Investigator). Today contemporary romances are on the hot seat, as we profile The Virgin Secretary to the Billionaire CEO (Who is About to Not be a Virgin At All).

She works so hard for her boss, who doesn’t even notice her as he dates vapid model after uninteresting actress, while she’s the one sending his mother flowers on her birthday and buying his daughter the exact right Frozen doll. But then, one night. Everything changes …

1. The YSL briefcase he got you for Christmas. Okay fine, you picked it out.

2. The Moleskine where you keep every single detail of his life.

3. The blouse that means you quite literally very buttoned up.

4. The hair clips you yearn to shake free from your bun, so you can let your auburn tresses (because of course you have beautiful auburn hair) cascade down your shoulders. The glasses that say you’re all business — until you whip them off.
