Book Hankerings: Our Most Anticipated Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Coming In 2014

Happy New Year, readers! The best thing about the new year, in our humble opinions anyway, is all the new books to look forward to! We don’t know about you, but there are an awful lot of books we’re hankering for in 2014. In the hopes that you’ll join us in obsessing, over the next week we’ll be listing our most anticipated books of 2014, by genre. Today, we continue with paranormal and urban fantasy!

Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop

Releases March 2014

Bishop's Written in Red made many best of 2013 lists, including RT editor Regina Small's, so we're very hopeful about the next book in the series, Murder of Crows. Now that the world of the Courtyard and the terra indigene has been fully established, it'll be interesting to see how Meg continues to dodge those who want to kidnap her to exploit her blood prophet talents. And let's be real, we'd definitely like to see more of Simon Wolfgard.

The King by J.R. Ward

Releases April 2014

We’re pretty sure we’re contractually obligated to start a list of 2014 paranormal book hankerings with this one. It’s Black Dagger Brotherhood lucky book no. 13, and we can’t wait to find out how Wrath deals with Beth wanting a child. April 1 can’t come soon enough!

Burning Dawn by Gena Showalter

Releases May 2014

The third Angels of the Dark story features assassin Thane, who rescues slave Elin — and then must deal with the fallout. We love this series and Showalter’s evocative style, so we can’t wait to see what happens next!

Skin Game by Jim Butcher

Releases May 2014

Gandalf and Dumbledore who? The only wizard we have eyes for is obviously Harry Dresden and book 15 in Butcher's Desden Files series sounds like Butcher is really putting Harry to the test with a break-in that involves stealing the actual Holy Grail.

Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones

Releases June 2014

We’ve been fans of Charley Davidson ever since she stumbled onto the scene, solving crimes and grim reaping her way through Arizona. And things are getting even hotter as Charley and Reyes are engaged, and Charley wants to know more about her beau’s dark past. And then there’s the tricky new case she’s working on …

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

Releases June 2014

We’re not entirely sure you need more convincing that this is a must read aside from us telling you: the next Psy-Changeling book will be out June 4. But, fine, if you want more: Awakened empath Ivy is going to fight to save her people — and Vasic, even if the assassin, the Arrow with the winter frost eyes, doesn’t believe he deserves it.

A Shiver of Light by Laurell K. Hamilton

Releases June 2014

Raise you're hand if you're excited for this one! It’s been years since Laurell’s graced us with a Merry Gentry novel, and we can’t wait to see what our favorite princess of fae — and her offspring — are up to now! June can’t come fast enough. (Seriously, it’s really cold out. C’mon, June!)

Magic Breaks by Ilona Andrews

Releases July 2014

We've been not-so-patiently waiting for book 8 in writing duo Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series since the cover reveal last year. Poor Kate must juggle both her supernatural investigative business and the messy pack politics that come with being the mate of Beast Lord Curran. Sounds like more than a handful, and after the murder of an important leader in their community, Kate's gotta bust out the big guns (er, big sword) to make sure her world doesn't implode.

Dark Skye by Kresley Cole

Releases August 2014

It’s book 15 (!) in Kresley’s Immortals After Dark series, readers finally get the story of Thronos, Lord of Skye Hall, and Lanthe, the once starcrossed young lovers who have never forgotten about each other. Except Thronos is now a warlord …
