Book Hankerings: Our Most Anticipated Young Adult Books Coming In 2014

Happy New Year, readers! The best thing about the new year, in our humble opinions anyway, is all the new books to look forward to! We don’t know about you, but there are an awful lot of books we’re hankering for in 2014. In the hopes that you’ll join us in obsessing, over the next week we’ll be listing our most anticipated books of 2014, by genre. Today, we start with YA!

No One Else Can Have You by Kathleen Hale

Releases January 7, 2014

This debut releases next week, and just about our entire office has read it. The consensus? It's amazing. Earning a rare Top Pick! Gold rating, this wacky contemporary murder mystery is best described as a teen version of Fargo, but that simplification doesn't do the story justice. If you enjoy hilarious coming of age stories that are lighter on the romance, don't skip this one!

Panic by Lauren Oliver

Releases March 2014

We’re all fangirls for Lauren Oliver, so when we heard about Panic, we may have illustrated our excitement with embarrassing dance moves and high-pitched squeals. The book is sure to be packed full of action and thrills, and we can’t wait to dive in! You can read our post about the book's cover here.

Promise of Shadows by Justine Ireland

Releases March 2014

As mythology nerds, Promise of Shadows is right up our alley! With a premise that sounds fun and intriguing and an eye-catching cover, what’s not to like?

Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor

Releases April 2014

Laini Taylor’s writing is pure magic — and so is her Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy. Karou and Akiva have been through so much and we can’t wait to see what this final installment has in store for them!

Don't Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Releases April 2014

Jennifer L. Armentrout takes a dive into suspense, and we can’t wait! Ever since we saw the creepy cover, we’ve had this on our “Grabby Hands” list of 2014.

This Side of Salvation by Jeri Smith-Ready

Releases April 2014

We have a thing for cult novels. There, we said it. So when we heard Jeri Smith-Ready was writing a cult novel where the indoctrinated parents disappear, on prom night?! We were IN.

The Lonesome Young by Lucy Connors

Releases April 2014

Do you watch “Justified,” the TV show? If you just said no, um, get yourself to a television ASAP. And then once you’ve discovered the amazingness that is Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, come wait with us for Alyssa Day’s turn as a YA author, where meth labs, feuding families and hot romance explode. WE KNOW.

The One by Kiera Cass

Releases May 2014

We’re as excited to read this book as a cat is with a new laser toy. And while we’re Team Aspen, we’re secretly hoping America manages to come out victorious without having to choose Aspen or Maxon. Girl power for the win.

One Man Guy by Michael Barakiva

Releases May 2014

We dare you to read the description and not want to read this book! It sounds quirky, heartfelt and all around amazing. Dear Book Fairy, please send us this book. Now. Love, the RT Web Team.

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

Releases June 2014

We need only say this: It’s the conclusion to the Mortal Instruments! IT’S THE CONCLUSION TO THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS! The cover asks: Who will survive? We don’t know but WE CAN’T WAIT.

Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater

Releases July 2014

This gif sums up our reaction when Sinner was announced:

Bring on the feels!

(We’re also waiting with bated breath for Maggie’s next Raven Boys Cycle novel, but, sob, there’s not a scrap of information to be had. BOOK THREE IS COMING IN 2014, RIGHT, MAGGIE?)

Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray

Releases August 2014

We basically love anything Libba Bray writes. She won us over with her fantastically weird Beauty Queens and we’ve been devotees ever since. Libba has been upfront about some writer’s block that has held Diviner’s book no. 2 back, but it looks like it’s on the way to us — and we can’t wait!

Untitled by John Green

Releases 2014?

Okay, we don’t even know for sure that this book is coming out in 2014. All we know is that we love everything John Green writes, and we’re so excited that the rest of the (non-YA) world has caught onto his awesomeness. We will be first in line to buy this, even if it turns out to be, like, A Treatise on Phone Books, 1970-1972.
