Chow Down In NOLA: Our 2014 RT Convention Restaurant Guide

Besides books, we love food, maybe even more than Jennifer Lawrence. So we’re of course super excited to be heading to New Orleans for the 2014 RT Booklovers Convention, because thanks to NOLA’s beignets, jambalaya and po' boys, there’s nothing quite like deep south food to hit the spot. We’ve got some restaurants and cuisine you’ll want to check out during your convention stay. (In the meantime, we’ll be right over here, salivating over our computer screens. We apologize in advance for any food cravings this post inspires).

Eggs blackstone at the Ruby Slipper

Desserts at Emeril's

For scrumptious breakfast and brunch options, including house specials like eggs blackstone and shrimp and grits, the Ruby Slipper Cafe is the perfect fit (we couldn’t resist). And don’t forget the famous Cafe du Monde, whose beignets and coffee start off any day right (or end any evening perfectly, remember these words: Cafe du Monde is open 24/7).

If it’s seafood you’re hankering for, Acme Oyster is the spot (may we suggest their oyster shooters?). For more fine cuisine of course there’s Emeril’s, which touts desserts like a vanilla bean creme brulee and upside-down whiskey pecan cake.

NOLA resident and author Heather Graham suggests you head over to  K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen, home to renowned chef Paul Prudhomme, who many say is responsible for introducing “blackened” food to the world. What should you order, you ask? Well, Heather says, “shrimp and grits should be part of the dining delight of heaven.” And you may want to try the crawfish etouffee, too! Muriel’s and Irene’s are two of Heather’s other dining spots. Diners are often treated to a live jazz band at Muriel’s while they enjoy their meals in this haunted and beautiful establishment.

And if you’re too tired to wander, then Daisy Dukes is a perfect option, since it’s located right across from the convention hotel! (Their Bloody Marys are a delight. Trust us.)

If you’re like us, you’re probably starving after reading this and are eagerly counting the days until the convention. We can’t wait to eat our way through New Orleans with you! In the meantime, for more convention news, visit our RT Convention page.
