Versatile author Victoria Dahl writes amazingly detailed historical tales as well as bright, contemporary romances. Last December, RT broke details about Dahl's next project, a contemporary series, in an exclusive Q&A with the author. Dahl shared a profile of the characters that the stories would feature. I am thrilled to say that today, we're finally getting a look at the series starter's cover ... and I'm not ashamed to say it, I'm in love!
But let's rewind for a moment. Here's what we knew before we saw the beautiful cover art:
Close Enough to Touch is the story of Jackson Hole, Wyoming's handsome cowboy Cole Rawlings and the city girl whose heart he steals: Grace Barrett. The pair become next door neighbors when makeup artist Grace takes a hiatus from Hollywood and decides to visit her aunt to get "back to basics." But with this sexy all-American man just outside her door, well it's not surprising that, like the back cover blurb says, "it turns out that there are a few more thrills in this small town than Grace was expecting..." But is this relationship enough to convince Grace that she should give up the life she's worked for and make her vacation in Jackson Hole a permanent move? I guess we'll have to read the book to find out!
During her Q&A with RT, the author shared that the first time that Cole and Grace meet, he refers to her as "darlin'" and this city girl isn't having any of his country charm. Dahl told us, "Of course, she immediately snaps, 'I'm not your darlin'.'" Fellow readers, can't you just feel their opposites attract heat sizzling and snapping off the page?
And I feel like the cover really captures the way that this pair really shares an immediate attraction that turns both their worlds upside down. I mean, they are literally topsy-turvy! But there's more to the cover than just the fun and funky character placement, the book's back cover blurb says that "Cole’s the only man who’s ever dared to get close enough to see past [Grace's] tough façade" and I think that that's really evident here. The couple is clearly sharing a moment of mirth, and they look absolutely comfortable together. (Also, holla, PJ Time, I am your biggest fan!)
And speaking of things I really dig, the light purple background of this cover certainly makes that list. It alerts first time Dahl-ers that this story will definitely be a modern day romp. But it's not all sweetness and light, the striking hot pink color that the author's name is written in definitely harkens to the fact that she writes a steamy, steamy love scene. (Those adult moments are legitimately "five alarm chili" hot, they are "eat the jalapeno seeds" hot, they are "Chris Evans' abs" hot.)
So to recap: There's a love that turns both city girl Grace and country guy Cole inside out, some seriously steamy action and the promise of more books set in Jackson Hole to come — all wrapped up in a beautiful cover? Sign me up! Thankfully, we don't have too long to wait. Close Enough to Touch will be in stores and online on August 28th and I can't wait! How about you?
