What do we really know about new author Emma Cane, besides the fact that her debut contemporary, A Town Called Valentine, received 4 stars from RT BOOK REVIEWS? In the February issue, we dropped a tantalizing hint about the true identity behind this mysterious newcomer. Everyone has wondered which author has crossed romance genres — and now we’re finally free to reveal the answer .... Debut contemporary romance author Emma Cane is none other than beloved historical romance author Gayle Callen! And here to introduce the town behind her new series is Emma/Gayle herself and then be sure to check out how you can enter to win your own copy of her new contemporary romance.
Hello! I’d like to introduce you to Valentine Valley, Colorado, where I’m setting my new contemporary series. I created a little town in the Roaring Fork Valley just outside Aspen. It’s beautiful country, with snow-topped mountains towering along each side and the river winding through. From the name alone, you can guess that Valentine Valley is known for romance, a place where couples come to find love, to rejuvenate relationships, to get married. Valentine is also in the middle of a ranching community, so let’s not forget the cowboys! I thought I’d give you a little tour of the important places in town, where Emily Murphy and Nate Thalberg live their lives.
Down on her luck after a bad divorce, Emily arrives in town late one rainy night, and her car breaks down at Tony’s Tavern, a bar on the edge of town. It’s where she meets local rancher Nate Thalberg, and their flirting over a game of pool leads to a hot kiss that embarrasses Emily. She reluctantly accepts a ride from Nate to the building on Main Street that she inherited from her mom. Emily plans to sell it to finance her return to college in her quest to support herself, but the last tenants vandalized it, and Emily will have to repair it herself, at least a couple weeks’ work before can return to San Francisco. Nate won’t let her stay there—the heat’s not on and the damage is considerable—so he takes her to the Widows’ Boarding House, a Victorian gingerbread-trimmed house where his grandmother and two of her friends live. In exchange for a room, Emily becomes the focus of three kindhearted busybodies, who run the town preservation committee and see nothing wrong with chaining themselves to a historic brothel to protect the “women’s history” of Valentine Valley.
The boarding house is part of the Silver Creek Ranch, which Nate’s family has owned for generations. They raise cattle, driving them high into the mountains for summer grazing. The ranch is run by Nate, his parents, his brother Josh, and sister Brooke. Brooke and Emily start to hang out together at Monica’s Flowers and Gifts, the little shop next door to Emily’s building, owned by Monica Shaw, Brooke’s best friend. With these two women, Emily finds friendship and support, and begins to heal.
Presiding over the town is the Sweetheart Inn, three floors of Queen Anne turrets and wrap-around porches, where Nate takes Emily on a magical date, and where she discovers old family secrets that change everything she thought about herself and her future. I hope you’ll fall in love with Valentine Valley like I have when you read A Town Called Valentine.

Town called Valentine

I think the book sounds delightful and cant wait to read it. I feel the first place I would visit would have to be the widow's boarding house as I feel there is a little bit of hussy in all of us women and would love the "feel and inuendo" in every night staying there. It being fixed on a ranch has plenty of sites to see maybe even a cowboy or two to dream about. What a setting for a romantic getaway but who knows maybe falling in love with a lonesome cowboy on a ranch, Heck yeah.

Although the Sweetheart Inn sounds like a lovely place, I am not adventerous enough to want to know what the future holds for me. I have already gone through a period of soul-searching, due to some tragedies that happened in my life recently, and feel that I have become a better person on account of it. Therefore, I would have to choose the Silver Creek Ranch. Because I had to relocate to the country, it sounds like a wonderful place, and I would love to see the mountains. I love the story line to your book, and would love to read it. Congratulations on not only the book, but on the rave reviews as well!!

It's hard to choose. Especially between the Widow's Boarding House and The Sweetheart Inn, both sound like my kind of houses. ;) I guess, I would pick the boarding house because it sounds so homey.
Hi, so there is another place

Hi, so there is another place called Valentine?!? On Valentine's Day we had a short spot on TV about St. Valentin, Quebec, telling us that it was the only place with that name in the world and was licensed by the post office to get a yearly fancy cancellation stamp. Well, all right, one is "just" Valentine, while the other is named for the saint himself.
Anyway, I'd love to visit the ranch and--maybe, maybe--I could finally learn to ride, in my old age.

This book sounds great! Congrats on the release. I think I'd want to hang out at Tony's Tavern for a bit and get to know people. Then maybe head over to the Silver Creek Ranch and see if there was a horse I could ride on to take in the scenery.

Okay - Am I the only one who wants to visit Tony's Tavern?? A really good bar can be an extremely entertaining experience. (I live in a state where bars are only so-so - and grew up where bars were great- returning to my younger days, I guess.) And there is a pool table. All good. Tony's Tavern for me.

Hello everyone! I'm so glad you enjoyed my brief little tour of Valentine Valley CO. And yes, I, too, loved the romantic feel of Sweetheart Inn. It even plays a deeper part in the mystery that's in Emily's past.
Jane, you created a whole little story all yourself! How cool!

Welcome Emma, I feel like I already know you but since I've been reading Gayle's books for years I knew that I had to find out more about your storeis!
Yes, I usually read historical romance but every once in a while I need that book that has a different perspective. I can't wait to read A Town Called Valentine. My sister-in-law lives just over the border in Wyoming in a little town called Baggs. The one thing she loves about her town is how everyone knows their neighbors. I love your approach and how you had Emily and Nate meet when she had a problem with her car. To me it brings that touch of vulnerability to her without reveling too much.
I already love your description of the Sweetheart Inn (Queen Anne turrets and wrap-around porches)and wondered what gave you the inspiration. My husband and I built our home 38 years ago and I still tell him when we move some day I STILL want a home with a fantastic porch! I love your cover but when you "visit" Valentine again I'd love to see the Inn on the cover!

well, first i would not come to visit. i would build a stone cabin with a wrap around porch near the river with the best view of the mountains, i would be staying at widow's boarding house while it was being built, then working part time at monica's flowers and gifts since i am an experience floral designer. i say part time because i have a little girl about two years old. mothering is a full time profession! then i would set up a small bridal shoppe inconjunction with the sweetheart inn planning weddings. after all in is a town called 'valentine' maybe i'll build tiny love cottages for honeymooners near my place, they can go skinny dipping at the river, have picnics near the mountains and at night stare at the multitude of twinkling stars near a firepit all the while roasting marshmellows. giggling
