Exclusive Cover Reveal: Jennifer Estep's The Spider

Over the past few years, we’ve watched badass “retired” elemental assassin Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, solve crimes, take down ferocious elementals and battle some scary paranormal creatures — all with her lover Owen and detective sister Bria by her side. Now readers will learn how Gin became one of the most dangerous assassins in the South with Jennifer Estep’s tenth novel in the series, The Spider. Today we’re pleased to reveal the book's cover, which shows a younger Gin wielding some heavy ice magic in the form of two pointed sais.

There’s no doubt we’re loving this cover, especially because it departs from the typical scantily clad Urban Fantasy heroine (although we bet Jim C. Hines would still enjoy recreating the 'don't mess with me' pose). While this may be because this version of Gin is younger, it’s always nice to see a refreshing change when it comes to cover art. (And don't even get us started on the enhanced magical elements on this cover — what a fantastic touch!)

Of course, we’re not the only ones enjoying the look of The Spider, the author is also a big fan of the cover art:

"I've been really pleased with the covers for all of the books in my Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series. Tony Mauro, the artist, and the folks in the Pocket art department who work on the covers always do an amazing job of capturing the character and world of Gin Blanco, and they've done it again with the cover for The Spider. I think that the cover really illustrates Gin's confidence, strength, and attitude, which fits in perfectly with the plot, since this is a flashback book that shows more of Gin's origin story and how she becomes the strong character that she is."

Gin looks so young and tough on this cover, it makes us anxious to read about how she got her start as a killer for hire. Luckily we — and you — can find out all about this character's backstory when the book releases at the end of the year.

Readers can get their hands on The Spider in digital and print formats December 31. And if you are looking for more great novels featuring kick-butt supernatural ladies, check out our Everything Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Page
