Five On Friday: Young Adult Edition

As 2012 gets under way, today’s Five on Friday: Young Adult Edition features authors we love that have just announced new projects. From paranormal to historical and every subgenre in between, these projects have us anxious for their release dates!

Author Joy Preble had a strong presence on bookshelves last year with her Dreaming Anastasia trilogy. Now she’s hard at work on The Sweet Dead Life about a teenage stoner who becomes his dying sister’s guardian angel after he is killed in a car crash. But will this duo be able to unravel a dark family mystery? Unfortunately, we will have to wait until Spring 2013 to find out!

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was a smash hit in 2011 and so we were thrilled to learn that not only will there be a film adaptation, but that the book’s author Ransom Riggs is hard at work on Arcanum the tale of two teenage brothers who unearth several sinister magical artifacts and become the target of a mysterious killer. Fans can expect to see this tale in stores in 2014.

National Book Award finalist Beth Kephart is currently working on two yet-untitled tales. But the one we can’t wait for takes place in the early 1980s and features a teenage graffiti artist living in Berlin quote “on the eve of a daring escape”. RT’s Whitney revealed that in all her years of YA reading she’s never heard of a tale set there and then — and that’s certainly a feat!

We’ve been waiting since 2007 for the follow-up to Lauren Barnholdt’s Two-Way Street. And thankfully, the wait will be over in Summer 2013. The author will add more to Courtney and Jordan’s saga with a yet-untitled novel.

Award winner and New York Times bestseller Shannon Hale sends the girls of Princess Academy on a new adventure in August 2012. The royal girls in training will travel to Asland to lend a hand to a soon to be princess for Princess Academy 2.

And One More Exciting Announcement:

Kiersten White, who found fame with her Paranormalcy books, is branching out. The author has four upcoming novels in the works, starting with Mind Games. In this tale, psychics and mind readers are the newest weapons in the war of corporate espionage but what will happen to the two teen girls desperate to escape the system? We can tell you that it doesn’t end in nice, neatly wrapped way; Mind Games will be followed by a sequel. White is also penning two stand-alone stories, the first of which will be titled Flood and Stone. It will feature the daughter of Egyptian gods, desperate to escape her epic family drama. The first of these books will be in stores in Winter 2013.
