With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!


Urban Fantasy - Kristen Painter returns with more supernatural stories in House of the Rising Sun, her New Orleans-set series about one of the city’s reluctant fae who takes on the responsibility of becoming a Guardian. No word yet on when this three-book deal kicks off, but we hope it’s soon!

Mystery - Steve Hockensmith is teaming up with tarot expert Lisa Falco for the White Magic Five & Dime books, a cozy mystery series focusing on a female ex-con who discovers her tarot card reading talent, just in time to investigate the unfortunate death of her mother. Release date TBA.


Historical Romance - A noble wounded ex-soldier of the Napoleonic wars teams up with a beautiful companion to woo a countess in Theresa Romain’s It Takes Two to Tangle. Will they succeed, or will the man end up involved in an unexpected romance? Find out when the book hits shelves this fall.

Mainstream Fiction - Sloane Crosley’s The Clasp has been described as a "generational comedy of manners turned absurd treasure hunt," and it certainly sounds like just that! A group of friends in their 20s must save one of their own from a crazy obsession that has them traveling from Florida to New York to Normandy in an attempt to find a mythic necklace that is rumored to have inspired Guy de Maupassant’s “The Necklace.” Expect Crosley's fiction debut in 2015, and a collection of the author’s essays in 2016.

New Adult - Get ready for another contemporary love story from bestselling author Colleen Hoover. Ugly Love will follow an intense relationship carried out via text message and includes a love triangle and lots of life changing decisions for the young protagonist. Release date TBA.

Young Adult - Kelsey Macke’s next heroine is a Damsel Distressed. The 17-year-old girl’s life is no picnic, and her struggles with obesity and self-harm are only exacerbated by her perfect stepsister. But this isn’t just a novel, the author also includes original music and drawings in what is sure to be an excellent media mashup. Look for the project in October 2014. 

Series Romance - Marilyn Pappano treats readers to Return to Copper Lake, the story of a man with a dark past who comes home, only to fall for the local good girl. But can his past stay behind him? Find out when this Harlequin Romantic Suspense releases soon!


Contemporary Romance - If you love a sexy SEAL, then you won’t want to miss Tina Leonard’s Hell’s Outlaw’s trilogy, which explores how SEALs have fun when they’re not risking their lives. The trilogy chronicles the adventures of three SEALs who own a rodeo training facility, but refuse to train a female team of riders a matchmaker sends to their center. Hold on tight! Release date TBA. 

Historical Romance - We’re gearing up for Zoë Archer’s upcoming holiday novella, “Winter’s Heat,” in which British special agents must pose as lowly servants at a country estate during the holidays in order to expose a scandal among society’s upper class. But when the spies discover that an intimate attraction might make their assignment more complicated, well ... you’ll just have to find out when the story releases this fall!


Erotica - After the success of her digital release Wallbanger, author Alice Clayton is moving to print with a hot new trilogy, The Unidentified Redhead, The Redhead Revealed and The Redhead Plays Her Hand. The novels will start with digital releases, followed by a print releases. Mark your calendars, because book one is coming Fall 2013. 


Looking for a good research book before you write your next mystery? Or maybe you just want to know the facts behind all the gritty crime novels you love. Either way, former CIA officers Philip Houston, Michael Floyd, Susan Carnicero and Don Tennant tell readers the real stories behind interrogation with Getting to the Truth, a book that will teach us how to get someone to confess once you’ve figured out that they’re lying. Release date TBA.


Meg Cabot’s six-book The Mediator series has been optioned for television! The books follow a mediator who communicates with ghosts in order to help them pass into the afterlife, but then unexpectedly falls in love with one. We’re thrilled to see who will be making an appearance as the ghostly lover.
