With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

NEW SERIES ALERT

Erotic Romance - Author Maya Banks can do it all — from writing paranormal and historical romance to romantic suspense. However, she is perhaps best known for her hot erotic books. And fans will be getting more of Banks’ incredible storytelling when Berkley releases the author’s next erotic romance trilogy. The publisher was so excited to acquire the rights to this yet-to-be-titled series, that it paid “multi-millions”. There is no release dates scheduled yet, however, we do know that the books will be set in Houston, TX and feature a group of friends that explore "tragedies and triumphs as well as their darkest fears and secrets."

New Adult - Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits has definitely pushed readers’ limits by bringing us intense stories of newfound love. The author is planning to once again shock and entertain readers with a new series that is described as a cross between West Side Story and Sons of Anarchy. When the fledgling adult hero raised in a menacing motorcycle club is paired with the MC leader’s teen daughter for the summer, an undeniable attraction begins. But keeping the club’s unsavory dealings from touching his new girl is more difficult than the hero ever imagined. The first book in this series will hit shelves Fall 2014.

Mystery - If you love the TV shows Grimm and Once Upon a Time, then there's a new book series from Maia Chance that you will want to check out. The books take place in Victorian England and add new twists to traditional fairy tales. In the series starter, Fairy Tale Fatal, a spunky variety hall actress finds herself unexpectedly whisked away to a storybook castle near Snow White’s cottage. But instead of finding happily-ever-afters around every corner, she discovers the remains of a dwarf. Will the heroine be able to find the murderer within the brambles of the Black Forest? Release date: TBA.

PIQUING OUR CURIOSITY

Historical Romance - One blind war hero plus the woman he once rejected reunite in Lecia Cornwall's upcoming What a Lady Most Desires. Accused of being a traitor, the Major must rely on his spurned lover in order to clear his name, and in the process fall in love! This title is expected to hit shelves Fall 2014.

Young Adult - If you can't get enough of bestselling author Alyssa Day's paranormal romances, then make a note of her new pseudonym — Lucy Connors. Under the Connors name, Day will be writing YA fiction! Her first novel, The Lonesome Young releasing Winter 2014, is a contemporary tale of love and betrayal. Pitched as a mash up of Romeo & Juliet and Justified, the story features a bad boy teen and the wealthy good-girl whose relationship is put in jeopardy due to the long standing feud between their families.

Fantasy - Does a novel further afield appeal to your sense of adventure? Then we suggest keeping your eyes out for Nisi Shawl's Everfair. Set in a re-imagined, 19th-century Belgian Congo, this story combines steampunk elements, a fantastical cultural renaissance and unbelievable scientific breakthroughs to thrill readers. Release date: TBA.

Contemporary Romance - A one-night stand has lasting implications when the lawyer heroine in Tori St. Claire's Unravel Me must face her temporary lover across the courtroom. Never underestimate a strong female protag, especially when her career is in the balance, but seriously, you’ve got to wonder exactly how she keeps it together when her opposing counsel is sexy enough to make her sweat.

MOVIE DEAL

Rights to Shilpi Somaya Gowda's debut novel Secret Daughter have just been purchased by Mongrel Media. Deeply rooted in Gowda’s culture, the story spans two decades and follows an infant born in India and put up for adoption. Raised in California, Asha wants to learn more about her heritage so she visits her homeland and finds secrets and pain, but also joy and forgiveness.
