Forewords - The Books Before The Buzz

With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

Contemporary Romance – Fan-favorite author Victoria Dahl knocked it out of the park with her latest contemporary romance trilogy. We fell head over heels for the Donovan brothers (and sister) and their adventures running a brewery, so it's no surprise that we can't wait to meet the next batch of Dahl's heroes and heroines. No titles or publication dates have been announced for her next series, but we will bring you more news as soon as it becomes available.

Science Fiction – Ann Aguirre already has several projects on her plate, co-authoring the Dark Age Dawning series as Ellen Connor, as well as writing in the genres of romantic suspense, YA and science fiction. But reader will soon have more Aguirre-style adventure coming their way. Aguirre is about to embark on a new futuristic trilogy that combines a prison spaceship, dangerous territories and several characters that refuse to give up. Think “Prison Break in space” for this series that will start in Fall 2013.

Historical Fiction – Author Stephanie Dray will wrap up her Cleopatra-centric trilogy with Daughters of the Nile. This new tale focuses on Cleopatra’s daughter, Selene, who became the Queen of Mauretania and a disciple of Isis. We can’t wait to learn more about this fantastic historical figure!

Thriller – Detective Will Kraus plays the leading role in the third novel in Paul Grossman's Sleepwalkers series. The upcoming tale, Confidence Man, tracks Kraus’ first year living as an exile in the City of Lights. But don’t worry, you won’t have to speak French to enjoy this mystery set abroad.

Fantasy – Fans of epic fantasy will want to check out the new series The Balanced Sword by Ryk Spoor. Although little has been announced about the series thus far, we know that it is set to begin with Phoenix Rising. Publication date TBA.

Mystery – Karye Cattrell takes on the pen name Bailey Cates for her Bewitched Bakery mystery series. In the series first, Brownies and Broomsticks, the heroine moves to Savannah to work at the family bakery, there she learns that the special ingredients really are something "special." We are looking forward to reading these magical mysteries and our fingers are crossed that this new series will also include recipes!

Historical Romance – In Practically Wicked author Alissa Johnson introduces a playful marquess to a famous fallen dove. But will his whimsical ways encourage this lady of the night to give herself a chance at true love? There’s no publication date yet but we can’t wait to see what kinds of mischief this pair gets into!

Paranormal Romance – A vampire king takes a vacation in Kendra Leigh Castle’s upcoming novella. But while getting some much needed R&R he is drawn to a free-spirited woman only to discover that she’s actually a vampire hunter. Will it be love at first bite or will this un-dead regent be getting a stake to the heart? You can find out in Summer 2012 when the novella will be released as part of the Nocturne Summer with a Vampire anthology.

Series Romance – In the next novel from Cat Schield, the author pairs a billionaire playboy with a woman who isn't swayed by his charms. He hires her to be his faux fiancée in the latest in Schield’s The Highest Bidder series. Readers can expect to see this still untitled tale on shelves in November 2012.

Erotica – Genre fans should mark their calendars for two upcoming reads that will be released in January 2012. Kristina Wright compiles a collection that will make you blush in Best Erotic Romance. And Rachel Kramer Bussel curates the contents of Best Bondage Erotica 2012.

Romantic Suspense – In the sequel to The Widow’s Husband by Lena Diaz, the heroine turns to an FBI Special Agent when she believes that her dead husband is stalking her. Publication date TBA.

Young Adult – What happens to an Executor who is sent to Earth to help humans find their destinies ends up experiencing human emotions instead? Find out in Fates, the first novel from Lanie Bross. We can’t wait for this tale that is being called “an epic romance set across multiple worlds.”

Mainstream Fiction - Were you at a loss for what to do post-college? You aren’t the only one. In Ten Girls to Watch by Charity Shumway the heroine takes a job at the fictional Charm Magazine. Her assignment? To locate past winners of Charm's “Ten Girls to Watch” contest and find out what the women are doing these days. We can’t wait for this tale that will be published in Fall 2012.

Humor – Expect to laugh while you’re reading Megan B.’s Bangable Dudes in History. This blog-turned-book brings together some of the very best “historical hotties” from princes to assassins, scientists to artists, and tries to explain what makes these men so appealing. To help readers understand Megan B.'s selections the book will include obscure historical facts, as well as photos, charts and graphs.

Young Adult – Like your films a little bit creepy? You’ll love the film adaptation of Ransom Riggs’ Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (and the book’s not-yet-titled sequel). The series first made the New York Times bestseller list and was a digital phenomenon. We can’t wait to see what Riggs’ is planning for the second book — and how the team at 20th Century Fox plans to bring the story to the silver screen.

These are this week's deals that we can’t wait to hear more about in the coming months. Check back every Monday for more Forewords and you can always visit our Upcoming Releases Page!
