With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!


Mystery - Debut author Janet Hubbard will be sending readers to France with Violence in the Vineyards, the first in her Champagne: The Farewell series. These mystery tales will take place all across the country’s famous wine districts giving the audience some great fictional trips to Europe!

Young Adult - Mixing fantasy and reality, author Tom Pollock embarks on The Skyscraper Throne trilogy. The adventure starts when a teen girl who happens to be a talented graffiti artist meets the poor son of a goddess — but will they be able to save the city of London from a demolition order signed by a god? The City’s Son starts the series next fall, and it will be followed by The Glass Republic and then Our Lady of the Streets.

Thriller - A Killing in the Hills will send author Julia Keller’s next protagonist through a mystery with many twists and turns as a prosecuting attorney tries to find out what really happened in a triple homicide in the West Virginia Hills. We are looking forward to getting our hands on the series starter in 2012.


Urban Fantasy - Spirits From Beyond by Simon R. Green follows a team of paranormal investigators in London as they try to smoke out the mole in their organization and keep a group of nosey teens out of trouble. Publication date TBA.

Mainstream Fiction - After the heroine of The Forever Marriage loses her husband, she looks back over the years that they spent together to try to reconcile her feelings of grief. This upcoming tale by Ann Bauer sounds like a perfect read for Elizabeth Berg fans.

Contemporary Romance - In author Juliana Stone's upcoming story, Never Say Goodbye, the protagonist returns to his home town after his best friend is killed. RT’s Whitney says, “I am particularly interested to see how Stone make the transition from writing paranormal to contemporary romances.”

Science Fiction - Kevin J. Anderson continues his popular Saga of the Seven Suns novels with a new standalone story set in space. The Saga of Shadows takes readers into the future of this series’ universe, twenty years beyond anything the author has written so far. 

Thriller - When a rare art dealer’s co-worker is abducted by a cult leader who wants to destroy humanity and re-build the world with DNA from Alexander the Great, it rests on this art enthusiast’s shoulders to save civilization as we know it in The Blood of Alexander. Fortunately, we won't have to wait long before we find out our fate this new novel from Michael Siverling won’t be released until 2012.

Series Romance - Harlequin Desire fans, mark your calendars. Next July, Andrea Laurence will treat readers to a story about old love and new babies as pair of exes reconcile in More Than He Expected.


Paranormal Romance - What is attractive, has two fins, a tale and a pelt that can imprison it in human form if removed? The sexy selkie that brings together an unlikely couple in Ocean’s Touch by Denise Townsend, which will be released online soon.

Historical Romance - Lauren Hawkeye wins this week’s award for the upcoming book with the most interesting setting. At Her Service takes place at a gladiator school in Ancient Rome. We just wished that this Avon Impulse publication would be out before April 2012, that seems like centuries away!


Urban Fantasy - What’s the magically skilled, law-student heroine of Jill Archer’s Demon's Advocate to do? She longs to leave behind her life of destruction, but one incredibly charismatic Maegester is standing in her way, trying to convince her to embrace her powers. Publication date TBA.


Biography - Forbes magazine staff writer Monte Burke tells the true story of Joe Moglia, the CEO of Ameritrade who left the company at age 60 to try to get a job as a head football coach at a college. Promising to be similar to The Blind Side and The Rookie, Coach Joe: A Dream Deferred But Not Forgotten will be out just as kids are heading back to school next September.


Thriller - Lunatics by Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel tells the tale of two soccer dads from Jersey who have an altercation that results in the pair attempting to evade both law enforcement and terrorist organizations. The book won’t be released until mid-January but Steve Carell’s Carousel Productions has already signed on to co-produce the film adaptation. Our fingers are crossed that the funny guy plans to take one of the story’s two stellar roles himself!

Young Adult - Paranormal YA bestselling series House of Night by writing team P.C. Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast, has been optioned for film. We can’t wait to see the school where these soon-to-be-turned students learn how to be vamps — or who gets cast as the long-running series heroine Zoey Redbird.
