Forewords: The Books Before The Buzz

With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

Urban Fantasy - Author Kelly Meding will continue her MetaWars superhero series with two more novels in 2013. Frankly, we can’t get enough of heroine Trance and her quickly changing supernatural world, so bring it on Ms. Meding!

Mystery - If you love turn-of-the-century New York City, be sure to check out Victoria Thompson’s Gaslight Mystery Series. The novels which feature a midwife-sleuth and an Irish cop have us positively transported, so we are pleased to learn that we can expect three more books in the near future.

Historical Romance - Will A Wicked Reputation keep a young countess from making her affaire de coeur with a notorious rouge into a more permanent arrangement? You’ll have to wait until Lianna LeFey’s novel hits stores to find out!

Series romance - Patricia Piniansky (who readers may know better as Patricia Rosemoor) and Lynda Sweeney have teamed up to co-write Starting Over under the pen name Lynn Patrick. This sweet tale about a high-powered career woman who finds love when she returns to her hometown will be available in Fall 2013 from Harlequin’s newest line, Harlequin Heartwarming. Readers can expect another tale to follow from the author team in 2014.

Erotic Romance - If you are craving something with more sizzle than sweetness, be sure to check out Anne Calhoun’s upcoming erotic romance. This currently untitled tale follows a solider who has returned home from the frontlines, only to discover that the warrior’s motto “no retreat, no surrender” might also serve as a good creed when pursuing passion!

Contemporary Romance - A pair of all grown up high school sweethearts have become best friends since the end of their relationship. But now that they are both about to walk down the aisle with different people, will they realize that they’ve been Keeping Secrets in Seattle? Author Brooke Moss keeps the tension high in this contemporary tale that will be in stores this summer.

Science Fiction - What would you do if you heard that there was a machine that could give you transcendence? In the fittingly titled Transcendental, a group of humans and aliens band together to go on in intergalactic hunt for this mythical machinery in the upcoming novel from James Gunn. This space adventure will be available in 2013.

Paranormal Romance - Libby Drew’s upcoming hero is on a hunt to save 40 souls from perdition. But on his journey, will he end up being forever changed by one very special soul? You’ll have to download the author’s soon-to-be-released story 40 Souls to Keep to find out.

Fantasy - Bee Ridgway’s next novel shines a light on a man and woman who may live in different centuries, but are connected by a dark and dangerous secret ability. But will they be able to destroy the secret society that threatens their future? If you’re intrigued, be sure to keep your eyes open for The Guild in 2013.

Historical Fiction - Anne Frank’s sister, Margot, is the focus of the upcoming debut novel from Jillian Cantor. As the famous girl’s sibling comes to America in the years after the war, she struggles with finding a future of her own.

Writing Workbook - Martha Alderson is internationally known for her skills as a plot consultant and now she’s turning her skills into a bonafide workbook, which will give aspiring authors access to Alderson’s innovative Plot Planner, Scene Tracker and Theatic Bubble Chart. Want her help? The Plot Whisperer Workbook will be available in Fall 2012.

Biography - Sophia recounts the life and times of Princess Sophia Duleep, an Indian Princess who grew up in London during the late 19th and early 20th century. She was the goddaughter of Queen Victoria but later caused great scandal by becoming an activist, suffragette and voice for Indian Independence. Anita Anand’s tale will bring this young woman’s heroisim to light for a whole new generation when the true tale is released next year.

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, the paranormal YA by Lish McBride, may soon be coming to the small screen. This story is about a college dropout named Sam who learns that he has the potential to be a necromancer. However, Sam must be careful because there is another character with paranormal ability who is planning on taking Sam out of the picture — permanently. We are looking forward to seeing what Fox will do with this zany cast of characters that has echoes of Shaun of the Dead.

A truly unique love story is getting a film adaptation: Laura Whitcomb’s A Certain Slant of Light tells the tale of two ghosts that meet and inhabit the bodies of teenagers in order to try to have another shot at life and love. We would love to see Lucy Hale play the ghostly Helen and Jesse Plemons as ghost James/human Billy.

These are this week's deals that we can’t wait to hear more about in the coming months. Check back every Monday for more Forewords!
