Forewords: The Books Before The Buzz

With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

Fantasy - Fans of Neil Gaiman and his wickedly inventive stories rejoice because in June 2013 the author will be releasing an adult novel The Ocean at the End of the Lane. And in the grand Gaiman tradition, the story will focus on some decades old magic.

Romantic Suspense - After almost two dozen stories, Suzanne Brockmann’s Troubleshooters have a new home. Readers' favorite private counterterrorist team is heading to a warmer climate in the author’s spin off series. The books will still feature ex-military heroes, but will be set at the Sarasota, Florida branch of Troubleshooters, Inc.

Young Adult - Leann Rimes. Taylor Swift. Carrie Underwood. The country music scene has always has its share of young stars. In Spring 2014, author Alecia Whitaker will be using real life as inspiration for her new series Wildflower about a young musician living in Nashville and facing the perils and pitfalls of fame and fortune.

Historical Romance - During the 1920’s, Chicago was the epicenter of America’s scandalous Prohibition Era. With mobsters and molls at speakeasies and dance halls, the opportunities to find romance were limitless. At least this is what the heroine of Renee Rosen's upcoming Dollface discovers. Torn between two men, there are no easy choices especially when it is revealed that her lovers are from rival mob gangs.

Paranormal Fiction - Robots + zombies = AWESOME. Even if you aren’t a fan of math, this is an equation that everyone can get behind! In an upcoming, yet-to-be titled book by Jeremy Robinson, a lone man is on a quest to uncover the global pandemic that is transforming the infected into merciless killers. But this illness is not from a biological source, instead it is a computer virus created by mysterious “Master” who is not entirely human. Release date: TBA.

Series Romance - Falling in love with your best friend’s brother can have its perks. Especially when your BFF is ready to help you win the man of your dreams. Thankfully, in Red Garnier’s upcoming Harlequin Desire title, A Kiss From a Playboy, the heroine is well on the way to getting her guy and turning her friend into her new sister-in-law.

Thriller - The shy American student in AJ Molloy's The Story of X never thought she would find herself in trouble when she goes to research in Naples. But while staying in Italy to study the crime organization the Camorra, she gets more than she bargained for when her aristocratic lover introduces her into a dangerous secret society.

Urban Fantasy - Carniepunk, an anthology hitting shelves in August 2013, is bringing together some of the biggest names in Urban Fantasy including Rob Thurman, Seanan McGuire, Nicole Peeler, Jennifer Estep and many, many more. With a carnival setting full of monsters, magic and myth, this collection of ooky, spooky stories will surely satisfy anyone craving a bit of a fright.

Contemporary Romance - With no family and few friends, the heroine of Vella Munn's e-story Death Chant decides to find justice for her mentor who was murdered. But in her way is a sexy Native American forest ranger who is tasked with keeping his people’s ancient rites and rituals secret.

Mainstream Fiction - Just as every person has a story, so do all objects. This is the theme of first time author Susan Gloss' upcoming tale Vintage. In a small vintage dress shop in Madison, Wisconsin, each piece of clothing is unique, just like the customers. During the course of the story, readers will get to know several different characters — a pregnant teen, a disgraced Indian housewife and a divorcee wanting to start over — and follow these women’s lives as they transform both themselves and the store.

Memoir - When American humanitarian aid worker Jessica Buchanan was captured in 2011 by Somali land pirates, she wasn’t sure if she would escape alive. But after three months in captivity, Buchanan was, thankfully, rescued by Navy Seal Team Six. In Spring 2013, Jessica, along with screenwriter Anthony Flacco, will tell her harrowing story of survival.

The film rights to Steve Hamilton’s The Lock Artist, winner of 2011’s Edgar Award for Best Novel of the Year, has recently been purchased. The thriller follows Michael, a man with an unusual talent for being able to open any lock, and his struggle to stay away from a life of crime. We don’t know who the producers are thinking of casting for the part, but we do know that actor Chris Evans from The Avengers has unlocked our hearts and at the top of our list for the leading role.

These are this week's deals that we can’t wait to hear more about in the coming months. Check back every Monday for more Forewords and you can always visit our Upcoming Releases Page!
