Forewords: The Books Before The Buzz

With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

Young Adult - If you thought pursuing a murderer in this reality is hard, try being the heroine of Claudia Gray’s upcoming book Can’t Get Next to You, which kicks off the author’s new Firebird trilogy. A teen sleuth must maneuver her way through various alternate realities, where she’s able to view all the very different lives she could had led. And we have trouble just finding the “snooze” button on our alarm clocks ...

Erotica - Score! Followers of Jaci Burton’s Play By Play series — featuring hunky athletes from a variety of sports — can add the author’s upcoming holiday e-novella to their TBR pile, which will reunite the Riley family at Christmas this winter.

Contemporary Romance - What would you do if your family entered you in a reality TV weight loss competition show? What if one of the other contestants was your ex-fiance? This is exactly the predicament Michele Grant’s next heroine faces in Losing to Win, which hits shelves this August.

Mainstream Fiction - The Silver Linings Playbook author Matthew Quick is taking after author Nicholas Sparks, because he’s just sold the film rights to his next book, The Good Luck of Right Now, right after the book deal closed. Quick’s upcoming release is told through letters the quirky protagonists writes to actor Richard Gere, and, after his mother’s sudden death finds comfort in the friendship of a priest, a librarian and her brother.

Urban Fantasy - Prepare to be charmed by Elliot James’ upcoming release, Charming, which promises to put well-known fairy tale monsters in the middle of a modern day world where knights sport Kevlar rather than armor and opts for bullets instead of swords. Expect this eccentric read to hit shelves in December 2013.

Thriller - New author Thatcher Robinson is making his debut with White Ginger — about a woman working on finding missing persons in San Francisco’s Chinatown. But will this bounty hunter be able to save the life of a girl sold into slavery? And what happens when she realizes that she’s being hunted as well? Find out when the book releases later this year.

Futuristic Romance - Renae Jones’ next heroine faces disaster when her home planet is taken over by outsiders and she’s forced to retire from her courtesan lifestyle. But when one of the men who is part of the group that destroyed her planet offers to help her put her life together, she realizes that forgiveness might be in order. And you won’t have to wait long for this sci fi love story, which will be available for download this year.

Contemporary Romance - Love a rock star hero? How about a story featuring a rock star heroine? YA author Daisy Whitney will be releasing her first novella for adults, titled “The Break-Up Album,” which follows a recently divorced female rock star who ends up falling for a handsome British rock critic. You can download this novella come Summer 2013.

Writing Guide - Chuck Wendig’s humorous, helpful guide The Kick-Ass Writer: 1001 Ways to Write Great Fiction, Get Published, and Earn Your Audience will compile the best of the author’s “25 Ways” writing advice column from his popular blog, in addition to new advice from the author. Perfect for the writer with a seemingly endless list of questions!

Stephanie Bond is heading to TV with Two Guys Detective Agency. If you think this is going to be another show featuring male investigators, think again! Bond’s story stars two sisters (with the last name Guy) who — with nothing else going for them — decide to take over a struggling P.I. agency. Sounds like a fun cross between Psych and Law & Order.

These are this week's deals that we can’t wait to hear more about in the coming months. Check back every Monday for more Forewords!
