Forewords - The Books Before The Buzz

With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!

Paranormal Romance - Heather Killough-Walden is returning with two more books in her Los Angeles series, about archangels searching for their female angel companions that have been lost to Earth. It sounds like L.A. may be in trouble, as new supernatural forces awaken and threaten mankind and the angels who have come to find their mates.

Contemporary Romance - No need to call 911 for your sexy civil servant fix, Jennifer Bernard has a slew of firemen ready for readers in her next three Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel books. We’re already hot just thinking about it! Release dates: TBA.

Science Fiction - Fan favorite Charles Stross is finally returning to his Merchant Princes series! The author just sold another trilogy in this alternate history world, which will start publishing in 2015. If you want to catch up before then, Tor will also be reissuing all the Merchant Princes novels in three, two-book omnibuses.

Romantic Comedy - Small town romance takes a turn towards the sea in Susan Donovan’s upcoming Mermaid trilogy, about a small island and its quirky residents that are surrounded by a mermaid legend. Here's hoping the author sprinkles in a bit of the paranormal into her stories to make the legend come to life!

Young Adult - Lish McBride is heating things up with her upcoming paranormal release, Firebug, about an awkward firestarter trying to get out of an underground supernatural crime ring made up of vampires, witches and a slew of other powerful nonhumans! There’s no release date yet, but readers can expect at least two novels set in this author’s new world.

Historical Fiction - Set in a New York seaside town just before World War II, Beatriz WilliamsA Hundred Summers tells the story of a love triangle between a New York socialite, her best friend and an irresistible athlete, which takes place over an entire decade!

Mystery - More comfortable writing about romance than living a mystery, when a dead body is found at her book signing, one author is plunged into a twisted whodunit. Now if only she can keep her mystery-loving best friend, who is convinced her hours of reading cozies makes her the perfect sleuth, out of trouble, then the heroine of Stephanie McCarthy’s quirky tale may just solve a Murder Actually.

Series Romance - A woman-in-peril and a sexy detective — Lena Diaz’s upcoming Harlequin Intrigue title, Double Cross, has the makings of a pulse pounding read. The only question left is will the heroine, on the run from a madman, end up falling for Her Bodyguard? All signs point to yes!

Erotic Romance - Ava March is getting ready to release a new erotic series, Gambling on Love, which will include three M/M tales sent in Regency England. While we are interested in reading about same sex couples finding love in the restrictive historical setting, what is most intriguing are the characters the author pairs together. Book one has a duke falling for a prostitute, book two brings together a card sharp and his principled old friend and the last story contains a viscount and a gambling-addicted widower. Release dates: TBA.

Contemporary Romance - A forced return to her hometown with her trouble making sixteen-year-old daughter is not the best new start after a difficult divorce. But the heroine in Jana Richards’ Welcome to Paradise is determined to make her life work — this time. She doesn’t want any help in her road to recovery, but an old high school flame has other plans. Readers can look for this e-book hitting digital shelves later this year.

Historical Romance - Fans of Shana Galen’s historical adventure Lord and Lady Spy, will be thrilled by the return of Lady Sophia Smythe and her husband Lord Adrian. Now that they know the other is working for the Crown to thwart Napolean’s henchmen, these two can plan a joint mission in the upcoming novella “A Spy By Any Other Name”.

Humor - Looking for something to do while waiting for another episode of Parks and Recreation? Amy Poehler is currently coming up with the fix — she is penning her first book which is an "illustrated, non-linear diary full of humor and honesty and brimming with true stories, fictional anecdotes and life lessons." We absolutely cannot wait for funny-woman Poehler to dish on making movies, starring in Saturday Night Live and being besties with another one of our favorite comedians Tina Fey. Poehler's book is set to release in 2014.

These are this week's deals that we can’t wait to hear more about in the coming months. Check back every Monday for more Forewords!
