With our column, Forewords, we let readers know the latest book news about some of the web team's most-anticipated upcoming releases across the genres — just as the projects are announced!
RETURNING FAVORITE SERIES
Urban Fantasy - Fans will be thrilled to learn that Seanan McGuire’s October Daye isn’t done yet, and neither is heroine Verity Price! The author has three more books slated for both her October Daye and her InCryptid series. Release dates TBA.
Erotica - Savanna Fox, aka Susan Lyons, is bringing back her Dirty Girls Book Club for another meeting. The third book in her series features a doctor who discovers BDSM through her book club’s spicy selections — and uses it for ideas to heat up her marriage — will hit shelves soon.
PIQUING OUR CURIOSITY
Historical Romance - Alyssa Alexander’s next two books will be packed with spy nobles and self-ruling heroines, starting with To Tempt A Smuggler, which will be available this year, and following with Deception.
Contemporary Romance - We’re all ready to click “pre-order” on Ruthie Knox’s upcoming digital releases. The author is treating readers to not one, two funny, lighthearted contemporary series at the end of this year. Roman Holiday — a serial romance about a Florida developer falls for a woman who chains herself to a tree to prevent him from breaking ground — and Truly, Madly and Deeply — stories about three Wisconsin sisters who swap cities with their NYC best friends and meet the men of their dreams as a result.
Young Adult - The heroine of Jackie Morse Kessler’s upcoming novel, To Bear an Iron Key, isn’t just a powerful teen witch, she’s also a young woman haunted by her grandmother’s curse with a marriage to the wrong man looming over her. We’re interested to see how this teen gets herself out of these predicaments, and we’ll find out in Spring 2014.
Series Romance - Sarah Pucillo Tormey, writing as Sara Jane Stone, in penning a Command Performance about a college professor who’s writing a tell-all story about an Army Ranger’s latest mission, only to learn that he’s a man she’s met before … in a much more intimate setting. Expect this Harlequin Blaze title this October.
Thriller - There’s only one word to describe Jeffrey Deaver’s upcoming thriller, and that’s “backwards.” The story will literally be told in reverse, with the first chapter and the end and the last chapter at the beginning. The book is still sure to be packed with the author’s signature suspense and plot twists! Release date TBA.
Mainstream Fiction - Renowned author Chuck Palahinuk has two more twisted tales in the works. The first is Beautiful You, in which the marketing of “feminine pleasure” takes an apocalyptic turn, which hits shelves in Fall 2014. Then in Fall 2015 comes Make Something Up, a collection of the author’s short stories.
MOVING TO PRINT
New Adult - K.A. Tucker's self-publishing success Ten Tiny Breaths is making the move from digital to print. A New Adult novel about a young woman trying to put her life back together after a drunk-driving accident tore it apart years prior, the four-book series will be available in print starting this year, with book one out this month.
DOWNLOAD AND GO
Romantic Suspense - Kay Thomas’ The Snatchback kicks off the author’s new series about a group of ex-special forces and intelligence ops who rescue U.S. citizens being held for ransom — starting with a chilling tale about a woman and her son being held captive by a dangerous Mexican drug lord.
Pop Culture - Alan Kistler — of The Unofficial Game of Thrones Cookbook and Crazy Sexy Geeks podcast fame (well, famous in geek culture) — will be penning Doctor Who: A History, a comprehensive history of the world’s longest running science fiction brand. After nearly 50 years of Who, that is going to be one massive book!
