Forewords - Buzz Before The Books

Diversity is a hallmark of the publishing industry, which is shown in this week's book deals. Read this week's Forewords column to learn about the new paranormal, inspirational, romance, thrillers and young adult projects that have just been announced.  


Paranormal Romance - Berkley Sensation has just purchased the next three books in Thea Harrison’s Elder Races series which is set in an alternate world populated by elves, demons and shapeshifters. 

Series Romance - Marilyn Pappano’s Harlequin Romantic Suspense series Copper Lake will continue with two new titles releasing soon. 


Romance - Beth Ciotta, best known for her contemporary romances, will be starting a new Victorian steampunk series. The first book, The Glorious Victorious Darcys, introduces three siblings who are each on a treasure hunt to uncover historical inventions.

Thriller - Stefanie Pintoff’s new thriller series follows a female FBI agent who is stopping crime with the help of a misfit group of ex-criminals. The latest mission, which will solve several murders, is brought home when one of the members of her team goes missing. No word yet on when Delacorte will publish the first in the series, The Final Option


Memoir - Kerstin Lieff’s memoir Letters From Berlin is narrated by the daughter of a German nurse who lived through WWII and the Russian Gulag. To be published next year. 


Woman’s Fiction - Jyotsna Sreenivasan's first novel features an Indian-American woman who gets involved with inappropriate men. But when she agrees to her family’s plans for her, which includes an arranged marriage, she swears off dating. Or at least she tries to in And Laughter Fell From the Sky, release date TBA.

Young Adult - When a grieving teen finds that his girlfriend is still alive, he will do anything to be with her even though she now lives in a parallel world. Emily Hainsworth’s debut Through to You will be published Fall 2012. 


Inspirational - Author Abby Gaines was inspired by the Biblical story of Rachel and Leah for her upcoming Harlequin Love Inspired book The Earl’s Mistaken Bride. In the story, the hero is engaged to one sister, but is forced to marry the other sister. 

Young Adult - In Alexandra Bracken's near-future thriller, Black is the Color, a 16-year-old with special abilities that she has only just begun to understand, breaks out of the “rehabilitation camp” where she has been imprisoned. The first of the trilogy will be published in Spring 2012.

Fantasy - Crossing Minority Report with a bit of Blade Runner, Dave Swavely’s upcoming novel Silhouette has the protagonist searching for his daughter’s murderer. But what happens when he realizes that he may have had a hand in her killing? Publish date TBA.
