An Inside Look At Gaelen Foley's Inferno Club Series
Gaelen Foley's historical romance series third, My Irresistible Earl is an April RT Top Pick! Today, the author gives us a guided tour of the popular establishment that her new hero is part of, The Inferno Club. But readers be warned — all is not as it seems for these members of the English peerage.
The Inferno Club is a raucous, decadent gentleman’s club that is actually a front for a spy ring in service to the Crown. What makes my dark and sexy spy guys different than every other Regency spy ring on the market today is that rather than being attached to the Foreign Office, my heroes are members of an ancient secret chivalric order, the Order of St. Michael the Archangel, that was founded during the Crusades. The Order does not fight an ordinary enemy, but an evil, centuries-old secret society of highborn conspirators that have infiltrated every court in Europe, modeled on the Illuminati.
These are the insidious, nefarious "One World Order" people, with satanic undertones to their organization, just like some of the conspiracy "nuts" out there believe. Now, I'm not saying I buy their theories...but I'm not NOT saying it, either! hahaha. Whether it’s real or not, I haven't the foggiest idea, but it makes for some good, high-stakes storytelling elements, and uber-villains worthy of my Regency-era Crusader knights, who are fighting to keep England England.
The Inferno Club begins with team leader Max St. Albans, the Marquess of Rotherstone’s story, in My Wicked Marquess. The guys have just returned to London, only to realize their celebration of the war’s end was a bit premature. Expecting to settle down and start taking wives after so many years of danger and derring-do, they learn that while Napoleon might have been defeated at Waterloo in the outward struggle between nations, the Order’s shadow war against the evil, occult Prometheans is not quite over yet.
This causes serious inconvenience to the shrewd and calculating Max, Lord Rotherstone. He’s always ten steps ahead of everyone else and has already started his methodical and decidedly ruthless hunt for the ideal bride. His only problem is that he approaches romance as if it’s another spy mission. Once he identifies his target in Miss Daphne Starling, it’s full steam ahead, and he is determined to win her, whether she likes or not. (Well, she eventually likes it.)
The second book, My Dangerous Duke, Rohan Kilburn, the Duke of Warrington takes the lead--the biggest, bad-ass, uber-alpha of the series, aka “the Beast.” He goes out to his castle at Cornwall to settle some trouble with the smugglers who sometimes run communiqués for the Order. The smugglers are terrified of him, knowing they’re in trouble, so they try to appease his wrath by giving him a drugged, half-naked girl as a gift to warm his bed. She turns out to be a kidnapping victim and the key to another whole mystery that leads back to the Prometheans. Even though Rohan is not sure if Kate is telling the truth about who she is or if he can trust her, he ends up protecting her and, upon learning her true innocent status, manages to keep his hands to himself (at least for a while).
This brings us to the brand-new release, Book 3, My Irresistible Earl. In this story, Jordan Lennox, the Earl of Falconridge, is the cool, quiet, mysterious one who is always there for his brother warriors—he is the guy who is the “glue” among this group of towering male egos, though keeps his thoughts and feelings to himself. Slick, smart, and understated, he is polite and cunning, a sort of Regency James Bond. The one thing that can make him lose his cool is Mara, the only woman he’s ever loved, ‘the one who got away.’ They met when they were young, but he had to go off to war; she was unable to wait for him and ended up marrying someone else. They have never forgotten each other. Now he returns and finds she is an independent widow with a young son, and when their paths cross again, they get a second chance at first love…
The fourth installment of The Inferno Club series will be coming out in early 2012, no firm date or definite title to report yet. But the hero of this story will be Drake Parry, the Earl of Westwood, who was captured and tortured by the Prometheans, and let’s just say this fierce, tormented soul has got issues. He’s a beautiful mess. Fortunately, he’s got a heroine named Emily who’s willing to fight to the ends of the earth to save him when he goes off on a solo mission for revenge, determined to finish the evil Prometheans off for once and for all, even if he has to do it singlehandedly . . .
