RT BOOK REVIEWS’ Graphic Novel Columnist and graphic novel author Anne Elizabeth shares a look back at some of her favorite panels and workshops from Comics & Graphic Novel Day at the RT Booklovers Convention!

For authors who are interested in breaking into the comic/graphic novel market, the 2011 RT Booklovers Convention in April had some fabulous workshops with tips and advice from comic professionals. The sessions are available for purchase and download right now. Here are my favorites! Alisa Kwitney, Les Dabel, and I gave writing tips in the “How to Write a Graphic Novel” workshop. This was a well-attended session, which definitely needed to be longer! “The Female Creators” Panel which was hosted Kelly Armstrong, Holly Black, Alisa Kwitney, Melissa de la Cruz, Richelle Mead, and Cassandra Clare had excellent advice on crafting heroines and heroes as well as writing kick-butt strong storylines. The “Artists and Authors” panel featured David Dabel & Derek Ruiz the publishers of Sea Lion Books LLC, David Uslan of Graphicly, and Gregg Hurwitz who is an author on the Punisher world as well as writing for the hit TV show “V”. The workshops by Dean Koontz were AMAZING and he had us all laughing out loud!

In 2012, at the RT Book Lovers Convention in Chicago, the workshops on graphic fiction will be even better and bigger. We look forward to seeing you there! Hooyah!
