Lucky 13: Our Most Anticipated Historical Romance Books Coming in 2013

With a new year comes resolutions, new beginnings and best of all ... new books! This month we'll be sharing thirteen titles across the genres we're looking forward to in 2013, starting with a genre that's often a romance reader favorite — historical romance! So just in case your TBR list wasn't already a mile long, here are a dozen (plus one!) historical romance titles we're anticipating in 2013:

One Good Earl Deserves A Lover by Sarah MacLean

Releases February 2013

Anyone who knows their historical romance will tell you that Sarah MacLean is a star on the rise. Her fresh, witty love stories are not to be missed, and we literally fought over the lone ARC of One Good Earl Deserves A Lover in the RT office. Reviewer Kathe Robin will tell you that "chemistry, intelligence and sparkling humor shine" in the author's second Rule of Scoundrels book, " ... and the added sexual tension provided by lessons in temptation provides readers with a delectable read."

That Scandalous Summer by Meredith Duran

Releases February 2013

Elizabeth Chudderley is a poor widow looking to marry a wealthy lord, but when she falls for Lord Michael de Grey, she learns that the doctor's finances are anything but copious. A story about love, class and blackmail, Kathe Robin says that part of this tale's charm " ... comes from Duran's ability to take a character who appears one way on the surface and allow a glimpse into their soul, giving readers a better understanding of humanity and the power of love."

A Duke Never Yields by Juliana Gray

Releases February 2013

Juliana Gray's debut, A Lady Never Lies, earned her RT Editors' Seal of Excellence Award in August 2012 and we couldn't be more excited for her third Affairs by Moonlight book, A Duke Never Yields, which has RT reviewer Kathe Robin raving: "The delightful Tuscan setting, enjoyable secondary characters and the perfect blending of a triple romance that seamlessly moves from book to book will simply charm readers."

The Earl is Mine by Kieran Kramer

Releases March 2013

A delightful spin on The Brady Bunch, Kramer's House of Brady series continues with book two in 2013. Lady Pippa Harrington is looking to escape her arranged marriage and flee to Paris as soon as possible, where she plans to live out her dreams of becoming a successful artist. But she needs help, which comes in the form of Gregory Sherwood, Lord Westdale, who blames Pippa for ruining his chances with the only woman he's ever loved. But as Pippa and Gregory scheme to get Pippa to Paris, will Gregory realize that life can bring you more than one great love?

Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt

This year Elizabeth Hoyt treats readers to another popular Maiden Lane book. Lady Margaret Reading doesn't expect to fall for the enemy when she sets out to destroy the Ghost of St. Giles. After all, this mysterious masked avenger killed Margaret's true love. But when she comes face-to-face with the man, she realizes that she not only knows the Ghost, but he is her husband!

Any Duchess Will Do by Tessa Dare

Releases June 2013

Tessa Dare is another up-and-coming historical author we can't help but rave about. Readers will return to Spindle Cove for a story about an unlikely match between barmaid Pauline Simms and Griffin York, the Duke of Halford. When the Duke is sent to Spindle Cove — where society's offbeat women call home — by his mother to pick a bride, he decides to teach her a lesson by hiring a barmaid to fail his mother's Duchess training.

Once Upon a Tower by Eloisa James

Releases June 2013

The fifth in her Fairy Tales series, fan favorite Eloisa James will be taking on the classic tale of Rapunzel in her June release, Once Upon a Tower. With The Ugly Duchess being an absolute delight, we're looking forward to seeing how James spins this story of a secluded woman with long tresses and a man who just can't stay away.

"The Heiress Effect" by Courtney Milan

Releases during the first half of 2013

Courtney Milan is sure to win reader's hearts with her next self-published Brothers Sinister novella, "The Heiress Effect." Milan's last release in the series, "The Duchess War," earned a Top Pick! rating from RT editor Audrey Goodson Kingo, who praises the story's hero and heroine: "Both a romantic and idealist, Robert is refreshingly respectful of heroine Minnie — a delightfully droll and complex character in her own right."

The Duchess Hunt by Jennifer Haymore

Releases July 2013

Haymore is kicking off her new House of Trent series this year with The Duchess Hunt. Simon Hawkins, duke of Trent is looking to restore his family's tarnished name — but he doesn't expect to do it in the arms of lady's maid Sarah Osborne. Their forbidden romance may plunge Simon's family deeper into scandal, but would a duke take such a risk in the name of love? If Haymore's prior work is an indicator for what's to come in 2013, we can only expect great things!

McCarty will be delivering another one of her outstanding Highlander Guard novels this year, much to the delight of romance readers who can't get enough men in kilts! Ewen "Hunter" Lamont is an expert at tracking missing persons, but his latest assignment is no stranger. Janet of Mar is a fervent young lass with whom Ewen shared an unforgettable kiss with, and now he's tasked with finding her and protecting her from danger. That is, if she'll accept this rugged warrior's aid!

The Sum of All Kisses by Julia Quinn

Releases July 2013

The Smythe-Smith clan is known for one thing — their absolute lack of musical talent. This makes their annual musicale very, very painful for everyone involved. However, the infamous concert of the Season has given Daniel Smythe-Smith luck in love when he found himself face-to-face with his heroine Anne Wynter in A Night Like This. Will another member of the S-S brood discover their mate at the musicale in the upcoming The Sum of All Kisses? Only time will tell as the publisher and author are staying mum on the characters and plot of this July release.

Vixen in Velvet by Loretta Chase

Releases September 2013

If you've been itching for another one of Loretta Chase's Dressmakers books, 2013 is your year! Book 3, Vixen in Velvet, hits shelves this September, and we can't wait for this redheaded bookkeeper's tale! The last of the Noirot sisters to get her story, we're anxious to see what kind of hero the author has crafted for Leonie. We have a feeling she will definitely meet her match in this fall release!

The Arrangement by Mary Balogh

Releases October 2013

Napoleonic War hero Vincent Hunt, Lord Darleigh, joins the ranks of Balogh's Survivors' Club in the author's series second. After being wounded in battle, Vincent is rescued by Miss Sophia Fry and taken back to her home to heal. Reluctant to return home to his meddling family — who want nothing other than for Vincent to take a bride — Vincent accepts Sophia's help, but the two end up on the street when her guardian refuses to let the unwed lady have a male guest. When the two marry to solve both their problems, they find their union to be anything but convenient.
