Lucky 13: Our Most Anticipated Paranormal And Urban Fantasy Books Coming in 2013

With a new year comes resolutions, new beginnings and best of all ... new books! This month we'll be sharing thirteen titles across the genres we're looking forward to in 2013, continuing with paranormal and urban fantasy releases! So just in case your TBR list wasn't already a mile long, here are a dozen (plus one!) paranormal and urban fantasy titles we're anticipating in 2013:

Ever After by Kim Harrison

Releases January 2013

We know something you don’t know ... which is how awesome the new Hollows book is! Witch detective Rachel Morgan once again finds herself in deep, this time trying to stop the Ever-after from being destroyed (and in the process saving the kidnapped Ceri and Lucy). But just like previous novels in this long running series, all doesn’t end well. Caution, tragedy ahead!

Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan

Releases February 2013

Kristen Callihan’s series is often labeled historical romance, but let’s face it, the Darkest London books are paranormal through and through. From the “elemental” Ellis sisters to their immortal mates, it seems like everyone has special powers. That is, except Poppy Ellis Lane’s husband, Winston. In previous books, readers have seen that Winston’s talents lie more in the direction of catching human bad guys … that and driving his wife to distraction. But when Poppy’s secret comes out, a giant chasm (no, not literally) opens up between the couple. And if they can’t bridge the gap, then dastardly forces will kill everyone. In Winterblaze, not only is Callihan’s exceptional writing present, but the author also uses this book to introduce new characters and aspects of her alternate Victorian world to insure that the Darkest London series is not ending with the last Ellis sister getting her HEA … this is only the beginning.

Lover at Last by J.R. Ward

Releases April 2013

While it is always hard to gage which is the most sought after read of the year, we would bet that a lot of readers would answer that they are most looking forward to reading the next story in Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. For the first time, the author is going there — a male/male romance in the mainstream. But let’s face it, Ward never fooled anyone. We all knew that Qhuinn and Blay would end up together. They are meant to be in the truest sense of the phrase, but boy is it going to be fun to see how they get there!

Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Releases March 2013

The second Night Prince book promises to wrap up the love story between the secret psychic Leila and the dangerously sexy Vlad don’t-call-me-the-Impaler. For someone who doesn’t even admit to having feelings, will Vlad ever get it right and let Leila know what she means to him? And will he be able to save her from an unknown enemy that threatens to destroy their connection? He better, because eternity would last forever without his mate by his side.

Rising Darkness by Thea Harrison

Releases April 2013

In 2011, Thea Harrison burst onto the paranormal scene with her Elder Races (the series starter, Dragon Bound, won the RT Editor’s Best Book of the year). So when we heard that the author was releasing a second supernatural tale, we were immediately excited. To learn more info about the Game of Shadows series from the author herself, you can watch this video where RT’s Morgan grills the author on what’s next. Thea reveals that the series involves two lovers that have been kept apart over and over again, but through reincarnation have the chance to make things right … if their separation doesn’t break them first.

Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris

Releases May 2013

Forget about Happily Ever After, we are much more interested in who will be Dead Ever After. (Which certainly makes it sound like someone is going to “bite” it in this last installment of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse series.) Sure, it is going to be hard to say goodbye to the titular character and Bon Temps, but with the True Blood television show still going strong on HBO and Charlaine promising another series, we can’t get be too sad that Sookie is finally, finally going to get a rest.

The Descent by Alma Katsu

Releases May 2013

In the third book of the trilogy, Alma Katsu wraps up the epic, and we mean EPIC love story she has been spinning in her Taker books. Spanning centuries and taking place all over the world (and even the Underworld), this trilogy has mesmerized readers and critics alike. The only problem we have is that we can’t actually figure out whose love story we are reading. Will Lanny rescue her first love Jonathan or will she end up choosing the darkly enigmatic, once-a-villain Adair? We cannot wait to find out!

Tempest Reborn by Nicole Peeler

Releases May 2013

Jane True has got to be one of the most snarky, infuriating and irrational UF heroines ever written … and we feel like crying knowing her books are coming to an end. This girl goes on adventures with a capital A and for the past several years we have been lucky enough to be one of her sidekicks tagging along. In the series finale, Tempest Reborn, Jane is looking to thumb her nose at the Powers That Be and rescue her lover Anyan who is trapped in an evil dragon. What can we say, just another day in the life of Jane True.

Untitled Psy-Changeling Book 12 by Nalini Singh

Releases June 2013

It is killing us — KILLING US — that even after eleven books, we still can’t figure out the identity of the Ghost. Could it be secretive council member Kaleb Krychek or maybe renegade Arrow Aiden? Perhaps the author will put a spin on the whole thing and make “Him” a “Her” (Nalini can be sneaky like that). But as much as it pains us, we can’t even be certain that the next installment of the Psy-Changeling series is even about the Ghost. We don’t have confirmation from the author or her publisher. (We don’t even have a blurb or cover yet!) So we are trying to stay calm and collected (as opposed to jumping on a plane to New Zealand and knocking on the author’s door to learn more), but the wait is brutal. Thankfully, Nalini has an anthology, Wild Invitation, releasing in March that offers two classic Psy-Changeling novellas as well as two never-before-published stories to keep us entertained in the meantime.

MacRieve by Kresley Cole

Releases July 2013

Okay, we admit it every time a new Kresley Cole book is released, we all do a little happy dance in the RT office. And when we learned that the next Immortals After Dark book will feature Uilleam MacRieve … let’s just say there was some extra booty-shaking going on. This Lykae warrior has been tormented and tortured, and is now very messed up. Definitely not the time to meet his mate. Unfortunately, fate has other plans.

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews

Releases July 2013

Oh, to be a birdy on the shoulder of the husband-and-wife team Ilona and Gordon Andrews as they work through the fight scenes between Kate and just about everyone else (not to mention the love scenes between her and shifter mate Curran). Lucky for us, the authors are not shy to share their writing experiences on their blog. We gleaned from the recent posts that Kate is not having an easy time of it with her rescue attempts going awry and her sword arm being bound by magic. But if these fantastic scenes are the ones being cut from the book, we can only imagine the awesomeness that is being left in.

Untitled Lords of Deliverance/Demonica Book by Larissa Ione

Releases September 2013

The author has spoiled that she is working on a crossover LOD/Demonica book that will star Reaver. We met him as a fallen angel, but just because his heavenly status has been restored doesn’t make this character any less dangerous-to-know. The real question is who is going to be Reaver’s love interest? Some bets are on Harvester. She certainly would be an interesting choice, but we don’t doubt for a second that Ione could change our opinions about this thoroughly unlikable character. After all, the author was able to redeem Reseph, the demon of Pestilence, in Rogue Rider, which was nothing short of a miracle.

Untitled Iron Seas Book #4 by Meljean Brook

Releases November 2013

The only word from the author is: “Look for Iron Seas #4 in November 2013 — this will probably be Zenobia’s book.” Probably? Probably! Does that mean it isn’t written yet? Because if not, then let us be the first ones to volunteer to head on over to Meljean’s house in order to do the dishes, laundry and other errands so that she has more time to put pen to paper and bring more excellent characters to life.
