Monster Mash Spooktacular: Month-long Mega Giveaway
Halloween is quickly approaching, and we're getting in the spooky spirit of things here at RT. Join us for our Monster Mash Spooktacular, a month-long celebration of the supernatural creatures who have stolen our hearts. Each week we’ll shine the spotlight on a different monster and add a set of books featuring them to our mega, month-long giveaway! Learn how to enter to win at the end of this post.
To kick off our Monster Mash Spooktacular, we’d like to show the love for everybody’s favorite brain-eating, flesh-rotting and utterly terrifying monsters: zombies. Fast or slow, these mindless, hungry creatures capture our imaginations and scare us witless. One of our favorite zombie writers is Mira Grant, whose Newsflesh Trilogy is as action packed as it is engrossing. Not only is it filled with plenty of the flesh-eating living dead, but there's also lots of drama that comes with humans attempting to cope with an apocalyptic zombie invasion.
We’re giving away a complete set of Grant’s zombie trilogy, as well as a copy of her upcoming release, Parasite, the first in a new series. Next week we're featuring another monster and another set of books to add to this month-long mega giveaway!
We’re continuing our Monster Mash mega giveaway with vampires — because you can’t talk monsters without mentioning the blood-sucking undead. There are tons of paranormal romance and urban fantasy series that feature these creatures, but when it comes to fictional vamps, we don’t like to keep things simple. Which is why Jaye Wells’ Sabina Kane series is one of our favorites. Nothing is easy for half-mage, half vampire assassin Sabina Kane, and if you don’t believe us, you can find out for yourself because we’re adding the series set to our giveaway!
Our monthlong Monster Mash wouldn’t be complete without the hottest paranormal creature of the past few years — shapeshifters! We’re always delighted to see what new animal authors have decided to morph with our human DNA (we’re still waiting on werealpacas). From Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changelings to Ilona Andrews’ Magic series, starring the kick ass Kate Daniels and Curran the beast lord, shapeshifters give heroes that animalistic edge that we just can’t get enough of.
In 2011, Thea Harrison won over our hearts — and our prestigious book of the year award! — with Dragon Bound, the first in her Elder Races series. We were captivated by the way Harrison combined her shapeshifter world with the feeling of a Harlequin Presents. The series kept getting better, as our lucky winner will find out, because we’re giving away the five-book series set!
Forget Tinkerbell, our next magical creature feature would make Peter Pan quiver in his boots. Depending on your interpretation, the fae can be trixters, out to bewitch you, or terrifying beasts, out to get you. The fae are fascinating, in part, because of their long history and fascinating lore. How authors interpret their rules, tricks and courts is always a delight for readers to explore. We adored Melissa Marr’s Wicked Lovely series, and we watched with bated breath as Aislinn grew into her powers and dealt with her human love Seth and her fae king, Keenan. Then there were Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series, where MacKayla Lane jockeys with the enigmatic Barrons and searches and battles for the Sinsar Dubh, the book of dark fae magic. Such high stakes and exciting action make the fae a monster we’re always thrilled to read about.
Of course, any mention of the fae wouldn’t be complete with discussing Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series. Taking the YA world by storm, we were all captivated by the exploits of Megan Chase, as she comes to terms with her fae heritage and world. And today, we have a series set of The Iron Fey — plus novellas — to add to our Mega Monster Mash giveaway!
We hope you’ve had fun during our monthlong Monster Mash giveaway! It’s almost Halloween, so it’s time for our final monster, and today we’re going with a classic: Witches. Witches are deliciously old school but they still show up on the canvas today, from Macbeth’s famous trio to the new TV show Witches of East End — and potentially Jenna Dewan-Tatum in real life.
There’s something about casting spells and manipulating reality while still maintaining a mostly human visage that’s mysterious, magical and romantic. And so to close out our monthlong giveaway we have not one but two series to add to the cauldron.
First up is Lauren Dane’s Bound by Magick series. Dane’s series is set in our contemporary world, where her “Others” are outed in the second book, Chaos Burning. The resulting books deal with fallout, and there’s drama, passion and more …
Then we’ve got Joey W. Hill’s two Arcane Shot books. A 2012 Best Paranormal Romance Nominee, Something About Witches has an alpha male sorcerer who will make you wish you could cast your own spells. The series second In the Company of Witches is a scorching hot read, with a witch who runs a bordello, and we know you’ll love them both!
