New Jersey Puts Its Heart In A Book

2012 was a year for travel for me. I was lucky enough to spend time criss-crossing the country to meet up with authors at various conferences all over the U.S. I traveled from RT's own Booklovers Convention in Chicago to the Romance Writers of America's National Conference in Anaheim and the American Christian Fiction Writers Conference in Dallas. Back home in New York, I attended Thrillerfest, BookExpo America and Comic Con. And while I was able to share these experiences with RT readers, one event I haven't had a chance to write about is the 2012 Put Your Heart In A Book Conference.

Hosted by the ladies in the New Jersey local chapter of RWA, the annual conference is different from others because of the intimate setting. Attendees include a few hundred writers and industry professionals, which gives everyone a chance to sit and talk rather than run from one event to the next. That's not to say that there wasn't plenty to do at the con! All weekend I attended workshops, Q&A sessions, a reading, a luncheon and a terrific booksigning.

The annual luncheon with guest speaker Heather Graham, who discussed recent changes in the publishing industry.

Jade Lee at her workshop "The Core of Romance". (Don't let the innocent looking teddy bear and purple monkey fool you, these stuffed animals can be dirty when called on for a demonstration.)

Award winning author Joyce Lamb discusses bringing romance to the masses with her USA Today blog Happily Ever After.

Members of Lady Jane's Salon, New York's reading series devoted to romantic fiction, hosted several authors that read from upcoming books. (L to R: Jim McGoldrick, Heather Graham, Susan Wiggs and Mary Jo Putney)

At the booksigning, I caught up with some terrific authors including Dee Davis (shown above), Jennifer Probst and Isabo Kelly.

Bravo to the ladies who put this event together every year. It is always a delight to meet up with authors, editors, publicists and readers who love romance as much as I do!

Did you attend a fun romance event during 2012? I would love to hear all about it in the comments!
