RT Booklovers Convention 2013: Moments From YA Alley
This year at the Giant Saturday Bookfair during the 2013 RT Booklovers Convention, YA Alley was the place to be if you were a young reader or simply young at heart! The area was packed full of authors, there were over 90 in attendance and authors and fans had a great time interacting. We chatted with some of the teens (and their chaperones) in attendance to get an idea of who readers were excited to meet and how young adult books have influenced their lives.
First, we met Kaylee, a 12-year-old reader from the Chicago area who was especially excited to meet Beautiful Creatures authors Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. She also told us she was looking forward to a special lunch with Rachel Caine later in the day!

Then, we met superfan Hailey, age 13, who was rocking a fun animal hat, totally appropriate for meeting Colleen Houck, an author known for the amazing shifter characters in her Tiger's Curse series. Hailey told us her favorite things about Houck's books are " ... all the curses and the adventures ... and the romance." We can't argue with that!

Next we had the pleasure of speaking with two of Richelle Mead's biggest fans, Morgan, 17, and Ashton, 13. They're siblings who drove nearly four hours from Canton, Missouri. Morgan said Mead's Vampire Academy is one of her favorite books and we were touched seeing a brother and sister sharing an awesome fan moment with the author.

Meghan, a 13-year-old fan from Chicago, was another young reader here for Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, telling us that she relates to heroine Lena, who inspires her to write poetry daily. Meghan and her friend were beyond excited to meet the writing duo and get their books signed!

Ally Carter had a long line of fans eager to meet the author, including 11-year-old Chloe, who was attending Teen Day with her father. Chloe's dad is extremely supportive of his daughter's book addiction, driving more than 300 miles so she could meet some of her favorite writers. Chloe's favorite Gallagher Girls character? Macey McHenry.

Finally, we met two voracious Stephanie Perkins readers, Julie, age 15, and Allison, 16. Julia told us that Anna and the French Kiss made her fall so in love with Paris, that she's planning a trip to France! She is going to visit all of the sites mentioned in the book and is especially excited to see the Eiffel Tower.
