BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, JUNE 29, 2011 | PERMALINK

Tuesday was Romance Writers of America's annual "Readers For Life" Literacy Autographing. With almost 500 authors signing and lines that wrapped around a New York City block, a tremendous amount of money was raised for important literacy programs. RT BOOK REVIEWS was there to chat with some of the authors in attendance. Here's a look at what we learned from a handful of the many fan favorite authors at the signing.

Susan Andersen was signing her newest contemporary novel Burning Up. We asked the author what was something about her writing that would surprise readers and Susan said that she likes writing about the family and friends in her books as much as writing the romance. So which was her favorite family member in Burning Up? "Definitely Auntie Lenore."

Will watched her go with regret. His attraction to the dark-haired lady with her execrable embroidery had taken him by surprise. She’d been laughing at his brothers—that was what had done it. Her eyes had sparkled with humor, her smiling lips just begging for a kiss.

Will sighed. He was here on serious business and could not afford to be distracted.

James scratched his chest and yawned. “Who was she, Will?”

Morgan & Whitney Dish: Beg For Mercy By Jami Alden

BY RT BOOK REVIEWS, JUNE 24, 2011 | PERMALINK

In Jami Alden's new romantic suspense Beg for Mercy, heroine Megan Flynn is racing against the ticking clock of her imprisoned brother’s execution date. Will she be able to convince Detective Cole Williams to reopen the case of a man he believes is guilty of a heinous crime?

Whitney: This is my favorite romantic suspense to come along in a while. The romantic relationship is so tortured, the killer is so evil, this was literally a story I did not want to put down.

Morgan: Agreed. Right now I am riding high on the whole resurgence great romantic suspense out there (waving at Maya Banks, Marie Force and Jayne Ann Krentz). And this has got to be, hands down, the best I’ve read in a long time. It was intensely thrilling, but the romance was still there — lurking behind every piece of dialogue, every action.

Whitney: Beg for Mercy really did read like a return to the early days of romantic suspense. Fans of classic Kay Hooper, Linda Howard and Catherine Coulter novels will devour this tale.
